How exciting! My VERY FIRST Northern Sounds birthday! I feel so young again.
Gary and David, thanks for your colourful and animated greetings, it really is great to feel part of this community, my only regret at the moment is that I don't have enough time to commit to it just now. Things will change!
Thankyou guys!!

Happie Birthday Barry.
It was great to meet you the other day.
Having now met 2 people from this forum in person, I have been forced to disavow my previous theory.
I thought that all these posts were self-generated by a posting bot, designed to amuse, tittilate, enrage, enlighten, etc, etc,.
It now appears that behind all these posts lurks a flesh and blood human. Who'd have thunk it. ? ;)

I can't, Barrie, I just can't, I'm afraid.
Gary gets all red-faced with smoke coming out of his nose
when I say things like that in the forum...
Something about my corrupting influence on the moral
values of entire nations and like that.
I don't quite understand it; but hey, he's a good friend,
so I try not to make fire come out of his nostrils.
Not more than twice a day, anyway, and I've used up
my quota.

Hi Everyone,
I know you're all busily putting together amazing arrangements of 'Happy Birthday' for me, and that reminded me of this which I threw together for a very dear camp friend called Adam some time ago (which is why my girlfriend, myself and the two dogs shout 'Dear Adam' at the end).
The odd Landler type piece at around 1'55" is a Swiss Yodelling song he insists on singing at parties:eek:, but I saw that 'Happy Birthday' could weave into it, and the Bach like fugue is on an old M1 organ preset - Oh I wish I'd had GPO organ then..)
HOPE IT MAKES YOU CHUCKLE!!:D :D

As you know from our extensive private correspondence, Barrie,
I took up yodeling in an attempt to break myself of the horrible
Polka addiction that has plagued me since the very first time
I saw Lawrence Welk. I truly appreciate your friendship and
consideration in not including a Polka in this mix... though I know
normally the absence of it might be considered a flaw in the
form of the composition.
I hope people in the forum do not mind me speaking so openly
about my Polka addiction. I know this sort of thing makes some
people uncomfortable. Fortunately new research has found a
treatment... yodeling.
In a double-blind study of Polka addicts conducted by Harvard
in late 2005, it has been conclusively proven that 83% of all
those addicted are unable to Polka and yodel simultaneously.
It used to be, I'd feel a Polka coming on, dozens of times a
day... and always at the most inopportune times. In the super-
market. Attending funerals. Making love.
But now -- no problem. I just let out a good ten-minute burst
of yodel... and the Polka urge is gone.
For my fellow forum members who are likewise afflicted (and
I suspect there are a great many), may I pray that my own
success with the revolutionary new Harvard Yodel Treatment (http://northernsounds.com/forum/showpost.php?p=428641&postcount=213)
may bring both hope and relief.
With best regards,
David

Wow, how much you must have suffered without us knowing David!
That 'Yodel versus Polka' thing is a tough call, and a terrible burden around anyone's neck.
You live alone, right?
My heartfelt commiserations.
Barrie
Reminds me of my.... oh that's probably a problem too far to share.

So true, so true, Barrie; oh, so true. But sometimes we just
have to be strong.
And you know, you have to have faith, too. Faith that there's
a reason we suffer such horrible afflictions.
In my case, my life as a Recovering Polka Addict is so vastly
richer and more rewarding. In the end, the tribulations I so
bravely and silently endured have undoubtedly led to a deeper,
far more compassionate understanding of the great mysteries
of life. Yodeling has made me a new man, beloved by all.
You'd be surprised how welcome a good yodeler is at funerals,
for instance, and the new dimensions this skill adds to, well,
expressing affection, shall we say.
As for your own propensity for excessive indulgence in tuna
casseroles -- Barrie, Barrie, Barrie... it's nothing to be ashamed
of! Let it out, Barrie, tell all -- and I'm sure you'll experience
the same overwhelming outpouring of support from the forum
that I did whilst struggling with my Polka addiction.
My best,
David

Polka ROCKS!
Wait, er, no... I guess that's an oxymoron???
I have left explicit instructions to my family that Polka is to be the music of choice at my funeral, which day seems to draw closer with each mention of the word 'Polka'

They played polka down on the canal over a month ago. First 3 minutes were okay, and after 3 and a half minutes, I started running. They said that I was the only one who could withstand it for more than 3 minutes...
