RK-inspired "Orchestral Vignettes"

Although I haven't had the time lately to look at them all in earnest, the Rimsky-Korsakov on-line orchestration lessons are just magnificent in the way they are being presented. Even if you've been through the actual text or something similar, I think taking even just a cursory look at some of these would be well worth the effort for anyone. (I'll be taking a look at lesson 10 today!)

Here are a couple of very short pieces ("orchestral vignettes"?) I just quickly sketched out for practice with GPO to utilize some of the orchestration principles from lessons 6 & 7 (originally posted in the RK section by GG).

Wow! Danny, these are gorgeous, particularly the Lesson 6
vignette. I've listened through that about six times, now.

The orchestration on this is exceptionally well and subtly
handled, true. The string voicing especially is excellent.

But Danny, let me tell you something. You can be an orchestration
genius; yet, in the end no, amount of orchestrative skill can
succeed without strong compositional material and musicality.

I do believe this is a case in point... where artistry, good writing,
and astute handling of the orchestra prove the power of the
combination of all three.

Both Vignettes are very enjoyable and well written/orchestrated. You have a definate grasp of the orchestra. Gee, you'll be writing a symphony in no time, lol.
