Microsoft has already announced that the new Vista operating system will come in as many as six different versions. Not sure which version of Windows can be upgraded to which version of Vista?

Microsoft has laid it all out in an easy-to-understand four by six matrix.

Oh Good Grief!
(with apologies to that funny round headed kid!)

Well, in the studio my primary DAW runs XP, but the GigaStudio machine and the office machine are still running Win2K (which is why I haven't yet upgraded GigaStudio!)

The main machine was upgraded from Win2K at the behest of Sonar5... I wasn't really planning on the OS upgrade!

The laptop has XP-Pro on it, but only because I do some IT consulting, and I need to be able to connect to other folks domains from time to time. That, and it came pre-installed<G>!

I imagine it will be some time before I upgrade any of my machines to Vista. I understand that they are hoping to provide a cleaner interface to audio routines, and from those routines to the hardware, but I'll believe it when I see it!

In general, I upgrade operating environments when a tool I depend on puts a gut to my head<G>!

Even with the matrix I can't imagine doing an upgrade. I've tried that approach once or twice over the years, and every time I've gotten better results (fewer problems) by just flattening and installing from scratch.

Or you can just get an Apple Macintosh with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (which will probably be released before Microsoft Vista).

Now if we could just get Native Instruments to finish porting everything to universal binary...

So, does this mean I have to put very dark sunglasses, a long black trench coat, spray paint my PC black, get it to bend 90 degrees backwards and fight Macs in slow motion stop action virtual cyberpunk space millennium matrix?:D

But there probably won't be time for Microsoft to copy any of the Leopard features. :D

It's not a race. Though if it was, you'd be losing. While you wait for everyone to conform to your needs, we're getting on with our work.

Another vote for Mac OSX! I have been on smooth running since it came out! Wish I could say the same for my PC, maybe Vista will change all that?:D

Peace

Or another vote for staying on XP: you don't *have* to upgrade.

I understand perfectly, now.

I don't need the family size, the new and improved box,
or the one that has special detergent additives that
clean up my desktop when you install. No sir. What
I need is the super-duper, onion-flavored, Utlimate
version! That's the ticket.

I understand that one comes with a built-in chainsaw
sharpener, not to mention an online psychic sound-
healing tuning fork set that will transform me into a
balanced individual with a healthy mind, courtesy of
the renowned Sally Owen (http://northernsounds.com/forum/showpost.php?p=428107&postcount=22) from the Barbizon School of

I'm sold, I tell ya!

Can it brew a bucket of tea? That's all I want to know.

Years ago I had an idea for using a server to deliver hot coffee to desktops over Ethernet wiring. But I could never work out the details.

No, but it can rotate and zoom it in 3D.

Yeah, sounds reasonable, considering the Internet - and most likely also the Ethernet - is all about tubes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DClkE64nFDY). What happened? Couldn't you get lumps of sugar washed through the tubes?

No need. I'll rotate and zoom all over the place all by myself, if I don't get my tea.

This discussion says to me:
Jovan wait at least 6 month after release date of Vista before you install it on a different PC and play around with it.
No before 3 month operating with VISTA!

I think that you're right, but this is the same with any new OS. Let's hope that MS doesn't follow the Apple trend of releasing a new OS every year and breaking goodness knows how many things in the process. I think that now is an exciting time for both Mac users and Windows users; I am certainly looking forward to running all my samples from one box, which currently can't be done from either operating system.

So has anyone got bored and tried to load GS3 on Vista Beta 2??
I had Vista loaded on my P3 for a bit, that was fun, but GS3 didn't do much on the P3 when I ran it with Xp!

I plan to run multiple boot partitions, one of which will have Vista on it. I'll only make the transition once everything is migrated and stable. My guess is that will be this time next year.
