View Full Version : Have a question about Project SAM install..

What exactly is the directory structure? If the lib is on my D drive, in a folder I call SAM, my Horn Section is in D:\SAM\Horn Section. Should the audio files by in that directory, next to the section folders (01 Main Section, etc.)? Or should the audio files be put into another folder? Reason I ask, is that every time I try and load a .nki file in Kontakt, it can't find the .wav files automatically, I am forced to browse for them. Thanks in advance!

Yeah - did that already. Did you guys not get the email, or am I a bonehead and miss it? :( I was actually able to figure out the first part, which was getting the audio files off of the DVD's (helps if you read the ENTIRE instruction.txt), but this is still looming.

Thanks Maarten!

Make sure you rebuild the database after installing new files.

If you resave the .nki files after successfully loading them, K2 will remember where you put the samples.

Er....me too.
It took me 20 mins to do one mic position of one instrument, by saving after browsing.
Rebuilding the database , doesnt help.
( I have sent e-mail).

When you get the "missing samples" pop-up window, you can see which folder K2 expects the samples to be in. If you place your samples in a folder with that name and directory structure, the loading should be painless.

AH - now THAT is a good idea! Thanks!

Nah, that didn't really work.

I moved the folders around according to where K2 was looking for the files, but K2 still can't find the files, and I get a message from K2 sayimg the files are assumed at, (ready for this?) :

F:\EastWest\Project Sam\Project Sam\Project Sam\Project Sam\Sam Horns Audio\Project Sam\Project Sam\Horn Section\Project Sam\Audio files.

lol

Ouch.....Thats too bad RiffWraith.

When I tried to load a trumpet it gave me...

the files are assumed at.
d/Kontakt/Sam Solo Sessions Audio/Project SAM/Solo 04/Audio files.

So I renamed the folders copied the Audio files to the right locations and Bingo !!.

It is definitely a bit of a process installing this Lib. !!!

F:\EastWest\Project Sam\Project Sam\Project Sam\Project Sam\Sam Horns Audio\Project Sam\Project Sam\Horn Section\Project Sam\Audio files.

lol

Worst. Pathname. Ever! ;)

If this is the assumed location, then the screenshot we e-mailed you maybe didn't work either?

We're putting a lot of effort into installer software for our upcoming Multi-format products which will take care of every aspect you now have to do manually with our brass series.

Thanks for that. So, I tried actually creating new folders based on what Kontakt was giving me, and that didn't work either. I load 22 Hn sustain c.nki, it asks me to browse for the files, I do, it finds them, it loads, I close the 22 Hn sustain c.nki, and then try and reload 22 Hn sustain c.nki, and it asks me to browse for the files again. WTF? This doesn't happen with The Black Grand. Is there no way to install this lib on a PC so that Kontakt will recognize the directory structure?

Did you resave before closing the nki again?

No, I didn't - I know if I do, that Kontakt will not have to do a search. but the point is - I really don't want to have to do this everytime I try and load something. If I load 22 Hn sustain c.nki, save it as a multi, and then try and load 22 Hn sustain c.nki again, I have to once again browse for the audio files. It's only if I re-laod the saved multi do I not have to do the search.

RiffWraith,

I don't have ProjectSAM horns.... even though they are on my list;)

But the solution is simple and fairly effortless.

Search:

Load a nki, upon "Missing Sample" Dialog, select the "Browse for folder" button in the resolve manually area lower right in the dialog. Select the main/top ProjectSAM folder (there is a good chance kontakt will already have this folder hierarchy broken down for you). Kontakt will then load the nki within a few seconds. At this point load all the nki's in that instument's folder.

Saving:

Click on the first nki's wrench icon. Just above the instrument in the upper right is a diskette icon next to <|> button. click on the diskette to save. A save dialog will open, make sure w/samples is de-selected, click yes to overwrite the old nki. Click the > button move on to the next nki. Repeat save process.

Kontakt will now remember everything, and you wont ever have to repeat this (provided you don't change the directory of the samples or nki's)

the process is pretty easy, just several clicks, nothing hair pulling there and you'll be done before you know it:)

You can also use software like Chickensys Translator to batch-rerefer the entire library at once.

Thanks for taking the time to type that. But unless I am missing something, that is basically the way to save .nki files, which I know how to do already. It is just a PITA to have to keep searching for stuff if you are not working from saved multis/.nki files. I am really disappointed that the library directory structure was "planned". However, having said that....
