the RME Hammerfall (www.rme-audio.de) is probably one fo the best regarding latency (if not _the_ best). But it doesn\'t have analog outputs (only ADAT and SPDIF) - you\'ll need a DA-converter.

Have a look at their new Hammerfall DSP system. It is an amazing concept: it has an external I/O-box (with even MIDI): \"Digiface\" or \"Multiface\" and can be connected to either a desktop computer (with a PCI card) or a notebook (PCMCIA card).
PCI Interface: 255 Euro
CardBus Interface (Mobile Kit): 310 Euro
Multiface: 715 Euro
Digiface: 562 Euro
Multiface + PCI Interface: 970 Euro
Multiface + CardBus Interface: 1025 Euro
Digiface + PCI Interface: 817 Euro
Digiface + CardBus Interface: 872 Euro
9632, hammerfall \"light\" seemīs wery fit
for giga, 16 out in total, and cheap AEB
8 ch output board so no need to pay for
input, sampling can be done from main
DAW, networked anyway,..
Wonder how powerfull the cpu must be to
achieve 3 mS Solid :-) (got 950 btw)
Thanks

the Hammerfall 9632 is good for sure, but considering that you can buy the Digiface+PCI-Card for under 650 USD (here in Germany), you get much more for your money IMHO. Have you already checked out the DSPs great mixing/routing features? This is something the \"old\" Hammerfall do not offer.
The reviewer in German KEYBOARDS magazine called it \"simply the best digital audio hardware availbale\". He\'s probably right.
Latency depends on the complexity of your setup/arrangement. the more softsynths/effects-plugins you use, the bigger is the latency that you have to choose (in the driver settings) to get _no_ clicks and pops etc.

I have sure been hearing a lot about these Hammerfall cards. I understand that they have converters that some are comparing to Apogee. I am intersted in possibly checking into getting one of these cards for myself but it seems that they don\'t have analog inputs or outputs. Being that I don\'t have a digital mixer or Adat interface, what would be the right solution for me and how much grief will it cause to my wallet? Also, is anyone using this card with Sonar? Does this super low latency work well with effects automation and DXi? Peace.
see their site:

Cheap AEB extensions available !

<<but it seems that they don\'t have analog inputs or outputs>>
the \"classic\" Hammerfall only have digital I/O, but - as HM already mentioned - you can buy the AEB expansions.
These expansion cards won\'t work with the new Hammerfall DSP system!!! But you could consider buying the multiface I/O Box which has 8 analog I/O, one ADAT I/O and one SPDIF (plus MIDI).

Thanks for the replies.
I think that I\'ll stick with my Delta 1010. This card is really clean. I get pissed of sometimes at the way they update their drivers. I have finally found one that works with no problems and I will stick with this driver until hell freezes over. Latency can get down to 3 ms with the Delta 1010 along with the right WDM drivers. This enables real time effects automation, and Dxi instruments if that is your thing.
I think I\'ll spend the money I\'ve saved on some better monitors. Peace.

What driver vesion are you using for your Delta 1010?
(I have an Audiophile 2496 card which I believe uses the same driver I an using v4.1.22.27)
many thanks

For my giga PC which has the audiophile, I am running windows 98 with the same drivers that you are using. It seems to work the best for me. For my sequencing PC, I am running Windows 2000 with Sonar 9.3. For this particular program I am using WDM drivers I believe it is version 5.10.19. There are some driver versions that are more current than this one but I had nothing but trouble with them. Peace.

Apparently you are using windows 98. I am running under windows 2000 Profesional. I talked to Maudio tech support yesterday after 50 minutes on hold and was advised to download and install Win 2000 service pack 2 from microsoft and to also install the latest drivers 5.12.1.25. Whenever you change drivers be sure to go into Sonar and delete all except the first line contained in your aud.ini file and be sure to save. I remember running Win 2000 drivers for the Delta 1010 under Win 98 as per the advise of tech support and it worked. Try it and see if it will work for you. Once the drivers are installed, go to the Delta panel and select HARDWARE SETTINGS. Under DMA buffer size you will find a drop down menu that contains various latency selections the lowest of which will be 3ms. Also in Sonar you must go OPTIONS/AUDIO and slide the buffer size all the way to the left. Experiment with the number of buffers in the playback que and also the I/O buffer size to find the best combination for your system. I
believe that Win 2000 WDM driver 5.12.1.25 is multiclient but I am not sure because I don\'t need it on my Sonar machine. I have dedicated a PC to Giga. Hope this helps. Peace.

Nazaru,
thanks for responding. I am actually running Giga 160 on this machine with my Sequencer being Cubase 32 on a mac. On the PC i am running windows ME not 2000. Is this the problem do you think?
what sound card are you using for Giga?
Do you get the 3mls on that machine also?
thanks

Nazaru,
I have the delta 1010 but my choices in the Delta control panel only go down to 8 mls and I get immediate pops and clicks so I have to use 12mls .
How did you get down to 3mls??
I am using the 4.1.22 drivers that are multiclient. I have 1 ghz Athlon PC and 384 meg of ram. what am I doing wrong? I can really tell when I am playing the Steinway B that there is a delay.
what can I do to make it better?
Giga...

I am running Gigasampler 64 on my giga machine using an audiophile card. My Giga machine has windows 98 SE and my sound card driver is the same as yours. It only has a PIII 600E processor with 768 megs of PC133. I have never used the Steinway but with Gigapiano I don\'t get any clicks or pops even when I drive it real hard. This PC has an Asus Cu4 motherboard, WD 20 gig 7200 RPM drive (system) and a Maxtor 20 Gig 7200 Diamondmax plus drive for Gigasamples. It appears that the Delta Windows 2000 drivers are the ones that allow for 3ms latency. It is a good deal that there will finally be Win 2000 support for giga soon. Peace.
