Have just bought JABB hoping that I could use the sounds within Sibelius 4 to improve on the weedy kazoo type sounds which are supposed to be saxes/trumpets etc in Kontakt Gold. I get the feeling from reading some of the threads here that things are a lot more complicated than that. Haven't been able to get any sounds at all out of JABB so far and to be frank, found the manual incomprehensible. Is there a component missing from my Sibelius 4/Kontakt Gold/Jabb set up?

Garritan Studio. You need verion 2.0 or later of the Garritan Studio app. It diid not come on the frist pressing of JABB, I do not know if it is on later pressings, but is available on the Garritan web site at no cost the last time I checked.

1. Load Garritan Studio
2. Load the instruments you want inot Garritan Studio
3. Start Sibelius
4. In the Mixer point yous staves to the correct Studio player and channel
5. Note the sound/program parameter is not used and it does not matter what it is set to.
6. Set your CC1 levels and play.
7.

Pete,

panic not - I'm sure that it will all fall into place! I'm only about these boards myself because of what I thought was a problem with JABB when I bought it back in around March.
No sound at all is almost certainly because you haven't opened the mod wheel controller - this controls volume and to an extent tone/timbre and has to be in some positive value to make a sound. If you don't have one on your keyboard you can open the ones on the players.
The only other controllers I use consistently with JABB are the breath and key noise controllers which off the top of my head are 12 and 13 and add a nicely live feel, along with a bit of vibrato, the depth of which is controlled by aftertouch and speed by cc17 (again from memory).
I use Logic Pro but quickly got some reasonable results for a job I was doing, I think there's still a link.

If I can help at all please get in touch, but I've no experience of Sibelius.

Now Ed, if you'd just been a BIT quicker off the mark I needn't have bothered)(~

Thanks for the advice guys - Have just worked out that I need to download GPO studio. Also managed last night to get some sounds out of JABB as a standalone application - it's just that all the instruments sound as a piano! Presumably this is also related to absence of GPO studio. Will let you know how I get on.

Then either you picked the piano or you even still are stuck with the midi piano in your soundcard - which happens if you do not properly assign the stave of your notation program to the Kontakt player.

Best advice I can give is that you read.every.word.of.the.documentation and follow the lines accurately.

I noticed that, by default, JABB places the sounds in Cubase during set up. Is this the best place for them if I want to use them in Sibelius?
