This is VERY embryonic, but is proving to be extremely promising to those of you who own Kontakt 2 versions of anything produced by Kirk Hunter Studios.
See a bit of the details at http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/performance.html
Hope to see some of you at NAMM!

I'll put up a demo in the next day or so. But as I mentioned, the scripts are very very new, and so I'm doing some tweaking for various instrumental applications such as brass, woods, strings, and the smaller sections too.
All of those who qualify to receive the scripting features will have the ability to download, so please stay posted to www.kirkhunterstudios.com often. Additionally, I'll try to email everyone, but don't count on that.
Many Thanks,

Actually the major part of the solo strings are included in the Emerald Symphoniy Orchestra library.
As an owner and lover of the SoloStrings I would strongly advice you to get Emerald. Itīs worth every dollar (Euro, Yen, whatever) and additionally you will have all the script upgrades. A no-brainer

Hi Kirk,
unfortunately Anaheim is far too far away from Germany but my sister lives in Riverside so maybe she can come to Namm.
Great to hear of the script. Iīm sure you did the right thing. Add even more playability to your excellent samples.
Iīm very curious to play the first cello legato solo with Emerald.

I'll try to post some later today.. These will be single dynamic layered for now, but can easily, and most definitely be applied to all kinds of dynanics and articulations. This script is rather flexible and so the possibilities are rather large indeed.

Ok, ok! The only reason for the delay in posting some demos is because we've made some really neat breakthroughs that make a big difference, and I'm trying to implement some of those things. Chris Caouette heard some of them at NAMM and reported favorably, and those were still not as good as I want. But soon...very soon!
Thanks for the patience.

Some of the legato scripts actually work in DFD mode. But some of the solo string legatos need to be in sampler mode. However, I'm working on that too.

Those legato scripts would be very incentive for me to xgrade my Esmerald Orchestra from GS to K2.
----
I indeed used to think that the K2 xfade fee was a bit overpriced, so I never made it.
(I must say, if the lib had been available in K2 format on release, I would have gone for that format without hesitation, instead of GS, that I use less and less, but I suppose that's what it costs to be an early bird)
---
Now if the xgrade comes with legato scripts for all the instruments families, this changes the landscape for me, and the xgrade becomes far more attractive............
---
So, yes, Kirk, I can't wait to hear what you did with this K2 feature, and please release those demos before the xgrade price raises !

There is now, as of February 2nd, an MP3 demo of the violin section legato, as well as a .nki file of that section's legato function, on the referred page; It's likely that your browser cache needs clearing so you can see the updated content.
Here is a direct link to the aforementioned demo MP3, in any case: http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/VnSecLeg.mp3

This is a great start so far. My biggest concern is that he can successfully combine this with a x-fade. I almost never work with velocity sensitive patches for sustains (other than it controlling attack) and use the MW for the swell. This is how DXF in EW, GPO, and VSL x-fade patches are set up. Kirk and I discussed this and you almost need two mod wheels!
Kirk - my suggestion is on xfade patches you could assign cc11 to control the legato-glide to free up cc1 and let that control the swell. Best of both worlds that way. :)

Really looking forward to checking out these scripts this weekend, Kirk!
I'm a relative newbie to Kontakt, though...Do you recommend loading the Impulse file in each respective folder for each instrument? I had always read that it was often more 'realistic' to use a single reverb as an aux bus and send different amounts of each instrument based on location...
But having a dedicated impulse for each section seems to imply that one should instead use a reverb on a per-instrument basis...?

The horns sound very, very nice. Nevertheless though I can clearly hear the legato, I canīt hear the same subtle gliding between legato notes as I can hear with the legato violin sounds. This can be either due to my hearing being impaired or to my decent knowledge of orchestral instruments (though I always produce a subtle glide when I play legato notes on my trumpet). Can anyone enlighten me? :)
Second thing I donīt quite understand: When playing in polyphonic mode there is no possibility of legato. Is that correct? At least thatīs what I understood from the instructions.
Thanks for your help

Ok, turned the extend knob more and increased the volume of of the transitional interval groups. Now itīs audible.
The only problem when you increase the extend value is that the last note of a legato sequence gets an unnatural decay. Anything one can do about this?

It's probably asking for a file called KhHall.aiff
It should be at the root directory of where you installed Khso. If you can't find it, just download it here http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/Impulse.zip
Open whatever instrument that can't find the impulse file (click the instrument's "wrench") and scroll down to the instrument insert module. Open that up, and you'll see where you can simply drag the impulse file.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Kirk and thank you for that great tip. I will do so immediately.
Thank you Joseph for providing me with the name of that software. I am going to check it out with great interest.
Kirk, one other thing. I get a very annoying sound from all the string instruments at the highest pitches (highest octave possible) in Kontakt2? Is that Kontakt2, Emerald or my Tannoy monitors? Funny thing is, someone provided a demo mp3 using KHSO samples and that damn sound was there (and seems more obvious in the right speaker than the left).
I will have to try another monitor source and see if it is there as well.
Let me know if you have heard anything like that before.
Also, Kirk, is Saphire above or below Emerald in price and quality? Do you have any plans to make choir sample collections? Considering your quality, support and fair price, I would buy from you in a heartbeat.
I have already sent 7 people your way and many more will follow. Maybe you should offer me a discount for getting you so many sales (lol).

Hmmm.. not sure what the weird sound is. I've not heard about it before. Maybe above c7, it's strange because that's higher than the actual sample, so there has to be some pitch bending.
Hey, if 7 buy from me as a result of your suggestion, I'm open for "thanking" you in various ways. But you have to let me know just WHO those referals were, ok?
Choirs? Beyond the spacy and odd choirs coming in Morphestra, I have no plans of it.
All Sapphire editions are well below the Emerald lines. Loo for them in the near future

Hey, i just have 2 questions about KHSO before i decide to order it...
Is the library recorded dry or wet? If wet, does ALL the instruments have a convultion reverb as an insert? doesnt that put alot of extra strainn on K2 and the computer?
And also, are they recorded in their natural pan position, or are they panned in the instrument file afterwards? Or not panned at all ?
thanx, hope someome can answer.

The orchestral sections are recorded somewhat wet, but not with so much that you can't easily add your own ambience. The solo strings are pretty dry. Don't forget that the perception of wet vs. dry is much more about how the samples release rather than the actual ambience embedded in the actual recording. For instance, no matter how wet a recording is, if you end the note abruptly, it will end up sounding rather "dry". So often, you can add perceptive ambience by extending the release of a note or make it more dry by shortening the release.
Actually, when the library was first being designed, convolution was going to be included in all the instruments as an option. However, after experimenting with this, it was just too taxing on any CPU. However, using a convolution insert on the multi worked very nicely. The KHSO impulses are included in KHSO. The instruments are recorded in their natural positions. So the placement is at the sample level.

Hi!
Has everybody noticed when using Frenchhorn Ensemble presets with Velocity Crossfade (for example FHsMarcSRR-VelXF-ModSweel.nki and similars) and you move up the modwheel there is an increasing(according to the modwheel value) "phasey" sound like playing the same sample simultanly with a very little delay. But with the velocityswitched presets there is no phasing.
Try it: Load FHsMarcSRR-VelXF-ModSweel.nki(or other VelXF-ed Frenchhonr preset) then hold a chord and move the wheel up i think you will notice the phasy sound or am i doing something wrong?
P.S.: Sorry 4 my bad english...

Whenever I try to load e.g. trumpets or french horns Hall programs, Kontakt 2 asks for:

It's not on the CD's (Emerald Symphonic Orchestra) or on Your website - but khHall.aiff in 2 versions are, as I recall it. Can You help me out?

There's a file called "KhHall.aiff" that comes with the library (it may be on all the CDs). If you followed the included instructions and already copied "KhHall.aiff" to the "C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt 2\presets\effects\convolution\07 Big Rooms\IR Samples" folder (or where ever you may have copied it), just rename it to "KhHallBrass.aiff". Once the K2 database engine knows where this file is, it should work okay from that point on. It did for me. Best of luck.

Hi Kirk,
is there any update regarding the legato instruments. The ones you already posted on your website are great but they are increasing my appetite for more :D . No sweat, just asking out of curiosity...
best regards

Yes, I'll be implementing the LegatoLive into the rest of the sections soon. But first, I'm reprogramming/streamlining KHSO Emerald so that I can put together good documentation and make all the instruments really consistent.
Stay tuned.

There will be legatolive patches for the solo instruments?
I haven't tried legatolive yet. How does it compare with VSL legato and EWQL Qlegato (I hope it's better than the last one)?

Until the price change of KHSO Emerald, anyone who purchases (or who has already purchased) KHSO Emerald qualifies for free updates that utilize LegatoLive. After the price change, most of the scripting that will be developed shall only be available to those who buy at the new price. However, there will always be free updates and even some free files in some stage of development for anyone who purchased KHSO Emerald.
When the legatolive is fully implemented, those functionalities which will be only available in the new priced version, could be available to the entry level price version users via upgrade? If so, how much will it cost?

Hi Dani,
I'll be making the LegatoLive available for free to anyone who already has KHSO Emerald. The extent of the LegatoLive implementation will be to the sections. I may include some of the solos, but it depends on whether or not I need to re-record some of the instruments to really make LegatoLive work well.
Thanks

Thanks for such a quick response, Kirk.
I hope you come out with an even better version of Emerald, which I think is at the moment the price/quality standard. Good luck with the work.

"ruby" - will be a larger, expanded version of "emerald" with more types of release halls and a few more articulations and dynamic layers. Upgrade paths shall always be available. Don't look for this too soon tho'.

Additionally, there will be a lot more Legato scripts applied throughout. Many of those are now in KHSO Emerald already.

Kirk,
Sounds really exceptional. I just read about it on your site. Could you let me know (ballpark) what the investment will be so I can prepare for it.
I have been using your library EXTENSIVELY in my work and I love it ALL!

Kirk,
Okay, I'm a little confused. I purchased KHSO Emerald. I asked what the upgrade price to Ruby would be but all I read about is . . . what looks like an updated version of Emerald?
Now, I read that the upgrade is free . . . does that apply to me? If so, how do I go about downloading or receiving the updated material that I currently do not have?
Then I read the upgrade was $125.00. Does that apply to me?
What is the price of Ruby or the upgrade to Ruby? It can be a ballpark, I just want to know what it will be so I can have it available when it becomes ready. Do you have a ballpart eta when Ruby will be ready for sale?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike.
I didn't know you were talking about a "Ruby" upgrade. The only upgrades that are available now are to the new Khso Emerald from the previous version. In your case, the $125.00 upgrade does not apply. At the most, you'd be paying $75.00 if you did not purchase the Khso/Khcs bundle. If you did purchase that bundle, you'll be getting your upgrade in the mail soon.
Thanks Again,
Kirk

Kirk,
What bundle? When I purchased KHSO (not so long ago) there was only 1 product for one price - $250.00.
I paid that. If there is to be a better or more updated version with new instruments and what not (Ruby), I am going to want it. Just let me know if there will be an upgrade to it.
So, you say that $75 is the price if I did not pay the bundle price? I never even knew there was bundle!!! I would have bought it.
Let me know.

Hi Steve. In your case, I see you purchase the whole thing, but yet back in Oct, and then again as an upgrade in Dec. You qualify for the free upgrade, so look for it in your mail.

Kirk,
My main question still remains:
Will there be an option for Emerald owners to UPGRADE to Ruby for a smaller cost than buying Ruby at full retail price?
Thanks.

Hello mr Hunter!
I bought Emerald ($249) in december 2005 and I want to upgrade to the new version (with Chamber strings included, among others)
So is the $75 upgrade the correct option??
Please enlighten me!

Hello Thomas.
Yes, that is the correct option for you. All you have to do is to enter your original invoice number from your original purchase when you go to get the upgrade.
Thanks

I'm still a little confused about the upgrade pricing after reading all these posts as well your website, Kirk. So, let me start from scratch:
I purchased KHSO Emerald in January (without the Chamber Strings sample CD) for $250.00. What would be the upgrade price to KHSO Ruby (which, if I read your website properly, now includes the full Chamber Strings library) ?
All the best,
Steve

Hi Steve.
Sorry for the confusion. There is no upgrade for Ruby yet since it's still in development. The only upgrade right now is to a newer version of Khso Emerald. You can see the upgrade features at http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/khsogigaork2.html
When Khso Ruby is completed, or nearly completed, I'll anounce upgrade paths to it for existing Khso Emerald owners. Yes, there will be a discount for all Khso Emerald owners.
Thanks again,
Kirk

I just realised that the Emerald strings now include BOTH libraries (chamber strings included). So it would be a nice offer that the original customers who bought BOTH libraries should have a decent upgrade offer for Ruby (see above).
