-Newbie here- I have the Delta 66 soundcard (Omni studio) and I have 4 giga instruments playing back, not very fast (pretty slow actually). Each channel is playing no more than 3 or 4 notes at a time. What I would like to know is: My hardware buffer is at 800 samples, and I\'m still getting some crackling on a few tracks. That seems pretty high to me to be getting audio crackles, but I\'m pretty new, so I don\'t know what to expect. Is this reasonable for a 1.5 Pentium 4 w/ 1 gig ram, 98SE?
For the speed of your processor and your memory allocation I\'d say no, but I\'m not sure. What type of hard drive, how big is it, what\'s the spin rate, and what\'s the ATA (if applicable) level?
I know all I have is an Audiophile 2496 and a machine running AMD 1900+, 512 MB DDR 2100, 2 40.0 ATA100 7200 RPM hard drives with a buffer size of 384 and I\'ve never had a problem with crackles or pops (unless reverb on all channels is enabled).
