WHICH PROCESSOR AND MOBO WOULD YOU CHOOS BETWEEN THESE TWO OPTIONS???

After a lot of research I\'ve narrowed my choices for a giga system to.

Asus p4p3 with Pentium 4 (probably 2.4)

Asus A7n8x with Athlon XP (2200 or 2500)

Which would you pick and why?

Neither for a pure GigaSystem - I\'d go for something a lot cheaper. Sorry that prolly wasnt very helpful:) But I don\'t know which of those two to choose.

Since v3 will want more CPU power, I don’t think this is overkill anymore.

I expect either board would be fine. I don’t know anything about the Nvidia chipset.. Some 184-pin memory tends to be more expensive than 168-pin.

Well I\'d skimp on RAID, USB2, FireWire etc... you can get perfectly good motherboards at less than half the price of those.

Another hidden problem with the fancy boards is that for some reason they think people need 4-6 USB ports. using 4-6 interrupts! I’ve built a few systems with the P4PE, and you get either all or none in the bios setup. Though I chose “none”, I see you’re asking about USB MIDI in another thread. Remember, you can (and should) network the PCs and use MIDIOverLan.
