Jeez, for a second there I thought it meant that you got everything for 60 bones!
still, 500 for 80 GB is pretty generous of them. As an Opus owner, I may just have to bite. Guess I'll need another HD.

I am surprised that these huge libraries are not sold already loaded onto a hard drive.
Wouldn't that be cool plug and play.

How I wish I could afford to buy some more sample libraries at the moment!

I own Opus 1 but don't see anything at this link that indicates a deal for me. What exactly are you referring to?
Thanks!

Aw Man, I just bought the Solo Strings and the Chamber Strings two months ago... Oh well, it still is tempting:wow:

I don't see any deal with 80GB of samples in this link.
Perhaps it's the wrong link or they changed the deal? I just see strings for over $1,100 (not the VIP price).
Thanks for sharing anyway.

That's because he's got the wrong link. The deal is quite real!:D

you must check the Product -> Vienna instruments II -> Special Edition page.
unfortunatly, there is not a list of all the articulations available.
i read it will be shipped in one week :) great :) !!
but i want the demos first before ordering !

I'm assuming the Timpani and cymbals contain cresc rolls? Not sure if they're part of "basic articulations".

I just watched their video tutorials and they have a tool that can transform any instrument in an x-Fade instrument. But I guess we'll have to wait for the articulation list.

That may be the link - of course, I chose the United States (region), so it may not be right from a regional perspective.
According to the chart, it's well over $1,000 for both libraries. I am sure it is a great price, but I own far too many orchestral libraries at this point - time to use them.

Thanks! Now I see the deal. Unfortunately I'm not sure I want to fork over $445 for the basic library right now. Any idea how long this offer is running for?
Thanks!

Matthew, according to Herb at VSL (http://www.vsl.co.at/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10644&start=35) there is no time limit for the SE extended discount.

To see the deal, you have to login to the website, and you have to have registered Opus 1. Then you'll see the extended library for $60, for a grand total of $505.
I do agree that's a good deal. However I own both the Opus 1 for EXS and the K2 version, and I seldom use those instruments. Sometimes, however, a solo instrument is just better from VSL (like tuba). I wonder if I bought the Special Edition it would make me like VSL more and use them more? Hmmm? $500 for something I kindof already have and kindof don't use that much? I think it's a back-burner purchase.

I have always been in awe of the VSL stuff but have never purchased anything mainly because the price was too high. Now I wonder if I own EWQL Gold and Gold Pro XP, and want to sonically up my ante, would this be a good investment? Would I be better off putting the $445 towards Appasionata Strings or their woodwinds getting more of a premium collection?
I suppose this is VSL's response to the lower price market? (GPO, EWQL Silver, KH, etc) I wonder for $445 will this be sonically superior or more flexible than Opus 1 and 2?
I am looking for another orchestral library and was seriously looking at Kh's Emerald (of course I'd need to buy Kontakt as well)

I think you're missing something. SE is 80 GB while Opus 1 + 2 is 35 Gb.
Personally i hope to find at least the same articulation we have in Opus, or very close. It wouldn't make sense to get less articulation IMO.
Also SE is 24 bit and Opus is 16 bit.

Geronimo, you make all good points: much bigger, 24bit. I'm just in the beginning of construction of a new studio, so all my money is going toward things like accoustical doors and electrician fees. If I can find an extra $500 out of that, then the VSL upgrade may make sense.
And Darren, I'm a huge Kirk Hunter fan, so I recommend that without reservation.

Bad timing for you i guess. Or i hope you're better at budgeting than i am.;)
Good luck with your studio! I'd love to see some pics when you're done.:)

You can see pictures of my current studio, if you're really interested. Go to www.johnmdavis.com and take the "Studio Tour." It's in the basement of a residential building, and is pretty far from my home.
My new studio will be much nicer. We bought the apartment next door to our apartment in Brooklyn Heights, and we're turning the bedroom into a studio. This involves: floating the floor, installing new quiet air conditioning, accoustical door, back wall diffussor, bass traps, ceiling cloud, equipment closet, custom built desk... what am I leaving out? Basically a whole lot of complication. It will be a permanent work space for me, and I can't wait!
I will take pictures when its ready, maybe in six months (I hope).

Thanks John! I always love to see studio pics. Plus i always end up learning something. Like in this case: ''ceiling cloud'' ..didn't know what that was, i had seen it before but didn't know how they call it. I gooled it and will reed a bit more about what it does exactly.
I can wait to see your future studio..

This is the man I would hire if money were no object. My wife and I are making due with books, catelogs and websites.
Carter Burwell's studio, designed by John Storyk, is the gold standard in my mind.

I'm confused. Is the SE a collection of VSL instruments, or just samples? I already have VSL Pro, so do I want this or not?
Pingu,
these are (a reduced set of) the same VSL samples you already have, but in a new (VSL' own) software engine which brings many advantages. The complete VSL catalogue is avalalable in this new format, which is known as "Vienna Instruments". That may be misleading; it's not just samples you get, it's a software "Instrument".
The Special Editon is a more or less entry-level, comprehensive (i.e most instruments ) but basic (not all articulations) set.
There are some good upgrade deals available- if you have Pro you could be eligible. You have registered Pro at VSL, haven't you?
Go to the VSL website, you'll find a full explanation along with video demos there.
