Daylight Savings Time 2.0: Spring Forward

Tonight's the night to set your clocks forward an hour before you go to bed. Daylight Savings Time has arrived - and soon we'll get to enjoy spring and shake off the winter blues.

Don't forget the set your clocks so you get to chat at the right time. ;)

TIME (http://northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50591) is such a slippery thinger (http://northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50591).

Thanks for the reminder! :)

Argh, I hate losing an hour. :(

You know, I read somewhere that time implies mortality!

You know, I read somewhere that time implies mortality! :eek:Here's a mind bender: Without time, there are no forces.

For instance, take a snapshot of a ball in the air. It floats. There is no longer any gravity. Or a snapshot of a dragster off the line. There is no acceleration, no momentum, no forces and no motion. Start time back up, and the forces return.

Or, to look at it another way, time is created by forces and motion.

That's why it's called Space-Time. :D

But if F=ma, then without time there is no mass. You can't really have the ball to begin with... or the dragster... they would cease to exist completely! A snapshot of them would be impossible. :D

What's really a mind bender is when someone says "The faster something goes, the slower time goes!" They think they understand relativity. :D Einstein laughs and cries... and sticks out his tongue. :D

I'm not getting out of bed an hour earlier. I'll just make appointments an hour later when we do it in the UK in a couple of weeks time.

"The faster something goes, the slower time goes!"

Okay, I think I got it, now.

By the same logic, the slower something goes,
the faster time goes, then, right?

I'm going to see what happens if I sit really,
really still.

I'll get back to you later with what I find out.

Much, much, much later...

No, it should be much much sooner since time will be going faster!

No, it should be much much sooner since time will be going faster!

No no no, see, if I sit really still, then time goes really
really fast, so a whole lot of it goes by more quickly...
thus, it would me be much, much later.

Ahhh! This explains why time flies so much faster when you are a slower moving adult, compared to how slowly it seems to pass while an energetic child just waiting for that magical birthday to allow more "adult fun."

...And therefore, with Santa's apparent age and the fact that he sits still while the sleigh is in motion explains how he is able to deliver all those presents in such a short period of time each year. :D

The Easter Bunny OTOH remains a complete enigma... (or conundrum, depending on who is discussing it..)

No, no, no. Is a whole lot of time going by
sooner that only a little?

Well, like, the faster my car goes, the sooner I get somewhere... that kind of logic, you know.

Ah, my good friend, you have struck upon the primary
reason why it is silly to speed with your motor vehicle.

The faster you go, the slower time progresses, so instead
of getting where you are going more quickly, it actually
takes longer...

Why, you said this your very self in an earlier post:

"The faster something goes, the slower time goes!"

Hmmm... so that's why I'm always more late the earlier I leave... it's like a pun or something.

Flawed reasoning ... In the earlier example, Force (F) is zero because acceleration (a) is zero. This says nothing about the mass (m).

Sir Isaac Newton would be rolling in his grave if he were still alive today. :wow:

Of course, without time, you won't be able to take the snapshot ... you won't have time to aim the camera! I don't have time to think about this.
