It is beyond belief that we have to manually copy files in order to get an update to work. There is no reason K2P installer should not find the old library and either reference it from it's current placement or find the samples and move them during the install process. Nice job NI :(

Flip side is GPO is still incredible, more so now with the K2P enhancements.

I second that sentiment.

I am a musician, and only barely knowledgable of all things computer.
when people start using acronyms and geek-speak to describe things, they lose me completely.

Flip side is GPO is still incredible, more so now with the K2P enhancements. We are not happy about this either. Native Instruments response to this is:

"I know it isn't easy for non-technical users, but there is no other solution. This is the way it will work for ALL KP1 to KP2 library updates, not just Garritan."

To make this easier, Tony found a way to a batch file to automatically move the sample files to the right folders. You can find it here: http://www.garritan.com/Kontakt2PlayerUpdate.html It is PC only and we'll look into a Mac version as well.

If you plan on using both the K1.5 and K2 players, might I suggest using hard links instead of using an extra 2 gigs of HD space? Here's (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/fsutil_hardlink.mspx?mfr=true) a handy reference if you're using Windows.

Uh, I didn't have to copy any files when I installed the K2 update. Am I missing something? Is this why when I initially load instruments I have to tell K2 to find the library files? I know I'm being lame here, but I don't recall seeing anything in the docs. :o

I may be able to assist with a Mac script. What are the default directories on Mac?

When you downloaded the update there was a "What's this?" link which told you to copy the .nks files.

With such a cavalier attitude towards its customers, NI should maybe get out of the music software business.

I know that you (Gary) have made every effort to help us through this, and for that, thank-you.

I may be able to assist with a Mac script. What are the default directories on Mac?I hopefully will be giving you the info you ask for and hopefully it will be accurate, new to Mac so fingers crossed.

In Mac it placed the "Kontakt Player 2" folder in the "Applications" folder, but I recall that during installation it asked the user where they would like to install the "GPO KP2 Library" folder. I chose the Applications folder because i didn't know what was best or why it would need to be somewhere else.~|

... and so that is where it currently resides on this computer, in Applications, along with the "Kontakt Player 2" folder, but not inside the "Kontakt Player 2" folder.
I guess a script will need to also ask where did you choose to place that folder during install of KP2.

Already there (in Applications folder) before this install, there were these folders:
Finale 2007
Finale GPO 2.0
Garritan Personal Orchestra
GPO Library

I don't know what the default folders will be but on a PC I used these paths:

.nks files from here

c:\program files\garritan personal orchestra\GPO library

to here

C:\Program Files\Garritan\GPO KP2 Library

The Mac folder structure will almost certainly be different.

The paths in Mac are

*/Applications/Garritan Personal Orchestra

*/Applications/Finale GPO 2.0

*/Wherever you put it/GPO Library

*/Applications/Kontakt Player 2
&
*/Wherever you put it/GPO KP2 Library

With the * being whatever you named your harddrive.

They use a slash instead of backslash and the capitalized names as i have them here.

Hmm, It seems Mac prompts for the location so it could be anywhere. I could do a search but that will take a while -or- could make the default in /Applications and have a readme file on how to edit the script for the actual location. I will experiment a bit and see if I can find another more fool proof way.

Yeah, not a huge deal Gary, and definetly wanted to make sure I pointed the finger at the right place, which I did in my initial post. Certainly not at you or Tom but squarley at NI.
Great so see the community pick up here where NI dropped the ball. Problem is there are thousands of GPO users that will nothave the technical know how or insight to piece this together by themselves. I hope they come here to get help from all us guys.
I was just venting a bit at the absurdity of the hoops NI are making us go through. Didn't mean to raise the noise level..

I think I found a way to get where the sample folders are automatically. But I need more info. Does the KP2 update use a new preference file? The old one is "GARRITAN PERSONAL ORCHESTRA.plist". If so, what is the name of it?

I feel the same for the most part, but I have learned a great deal from this experience. This has been the case from the start when using full GPO and Finale. I've had to learn how to do this. For the most part detailed instruction are available on this forum and additional insturctions and need files on the MakeMusic forum.

I find this far less complicated that trying to learn to use Sonar. Now, there is a piece of work and I just don't get it. I am very good when it comes to learning software, but Sonar stumps me. It left me feeling like the village idiot.

However, if you do manage to do it successfully, I can assure you will not remember what you had to do to get the unbelievable results. On this forum there is always someone willing to help.

Interesting.

I use Finale 07c exclusively to prepare my scores then I process the scores in Sonar Producer 6. Finale has had these problems which many, including myself, still have not resolved despite following all the instructions yet in Sonar everything worked first time superbly.

I understand what you mean though .. when I first tried Sonar .. :confused: But now, thanks to a lot of support from the good folks in our forums, I'm well away with my 'new' Sonar.

This is just so untrue and arrogant.

Fortunately it isn't too difficult to copy files from one folder to another but still this is not a good business image.

Roll on the day when Gary's player is ready and we can then dispense with NI and the disregard and contempt NI is now becoming famous for.

Thanks. I think I got the script working. I know from over at the Sibelius Forum that you're very computer literate. Would mind doing a final check of my script before I send it to Gary? It's tough to check fully without GPO on my Mac.
