Here is a demo from GRP recording artist Don Grusin ( http://www.dongrusin.com ) Don has the BDMO on this main desktop system as well as on his Mac laptop computer for touring.

As you can tell by this performance he is having fun with the piano. Don told Dan and I that the "Bluthner is perfect, solid, predictable and great sounding.", He also adds the reason for this demo appropriately entitled "Blüthner Bent" is "But the point here is that the instrument has such flexibility, ease of playing, all the pedal
stuff is flawless". Not your average mainstream piano demo but as always very musical ! He uses the Pop 55% Dynamic Range Variable Pedal patch with a little reverb from Space Designer,

Hi Ernest

Great fun ! Just a question, could you tell us which controller is used by Don Grusin and also if he uses custom velocity curves with his keyboard ? Experience with a sound can completely change depending on controllers.

Hi Ernest,
have you ever thought about providing something like a one octave demo to get an idea how this (at least in the demos) excellent sounding piano FEELS.
I have had some disappointment in the past with piano libraries so a limited demo would be great.
Thanks for thinking about it :)

It's be nice to hear it played like a piano as opposed to a slide guitar.
Can't even tell how it would sound as a piano with this type of demo.

Sounds great. I certainly don't need another piano set but its interesting enough to make me spend some time at your site - and that usually means I will wake up in a few minutes wondering how my credit card got out of my wallet ..........

I understand - please go to our web site for more traditional piano demos http://www.proaudiovault.com There are currently over 20 demos at this site.

Ernest - you almost had my order but I no longer buy libs with locked sample pools. I will not tie my investment to the business fate NI.

Hi Ernest,
any thoughts about this? I´m afraid I´ll buy the piano anyway ;) but a demo would help me to convince my wife that we won´t be able to go to the restaurants this month.
I´m not sure if a one octave demo is technically (server bandwidth etc.) feasible but it gives the buyer a much closer impression of an instrument than demo songs (though the website demo songs sound pretty much like a piano sound I´m looking after)
Thanks

Unfortunately it cannot easily be done with the Kontakt 2 Player. The demos do reflect how the piano sounds. There are no surprises !

FYI - I adjusted some of the velocity notes in the Skylark demos so that it plays better on the BDMO. You might be interested in hearing these - I will post this demo with a different TI later today so you can hear how the piano tone changes. This demo used the Sustain Impulse number 6 and Reverb Impulse number 13 (mixed in at -5db).

The links are

Thanks for your reply. I was afraid, that a demo of the instrument might be technically difficult to produce. Nevermind, it´s only that you sometimes have to actually PLAY the instrument to have the correct impression. My favourite piano is the Virtual Grand form ArtVista which doesn´t have the best demos but does perform very well

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that I would render the song Skylark with a couple of different timbral impulses from BDMO. The original version is included for listening reference.

The song Skylark with a 45% dynamic range patch, reverb impulse number 13 at -5db and sustain impulse number 6 with the original Blüthner piano sound (no Ti used) http://www.proaudiovault.com/Skylark_45_Ri13_5db_Si6.mp3

Here is the same demo but with jazz timbral Impulse 50 added - this tansforms the full sound of the Blüthner piano back in time to the sound of a "cool" midrange sounding piano. This Ti was inspired by a great 1962 jazz recording. http://www.proaudiovault.com/Skylark_45_Ri13_5db_Si6_Ti50.mp3

Here is another demo but with timbral Impulse 46 added - this tansforms the full sound of the Blüthner piano back in time to the warm sound with a more pronounced upper bass character, This Ti was inspired by a 1975 solo jazz piano recording. http://www.proaudiovault.com/Skylark_45_Ri13_5db_Si6_Ti46.mp3

The third timbral Impulse 39 tansforms the full sound of the Blüthner piano back in time to the bright but full sound with not as deep of a bass resonance as the BDMO. This Ti was inspired by the piano sound in a 1978 virtuostic jazz recording. http://www.proaudiovault.com/Skylark_45_Ri13_5db_Si6_Ti39.mp3

I am not sure he does have a couple keyboard controllers in his studio - all I can say is when he switches from a piano to a keyboard controller he immediately adjusts his playing technique to fit the controller so that it sounds great on whatever he is playing on. I think jazz keyboardist develop this skill because often they have to play on less that ideal pianos when touring !
