Ah, yes, VST and AU support. Should make it MUCH easier to use Garritan products!

Sweet! VST support finally. I've been waiting to ditch Overture, this will be the time!

I didn't see any info about advanced MIDI playback getting simplified. Did anyone else?

I would like to hear from those who have used Finale and then switched to Sibelius. Especially, if you have switched to the new Sebelius 5. There is an offer to upgrade for $199. from Sebelius for Finale users. Does this mean that they require one to surrender your Finale software? The upgrade instructions seem to suggest that all is required is to submit the table of contents pages of the Finale Users Manual. Any feedback will be greately appreciated. I somehow get the feeling that Sebelius is about to knock Finale out of the ball park.

I don't know about "simplified", but you can now use VST instruments running through a much more sophisticated mixer which should greatly improve the final audio product, and they tout the ability to define the MIDI aspects of articulations which should greatly enhance the realism of the performance. I guess your familiarity with this technology will determine if it's simplified or not. Was there something specifically you were looking for?

I did a crossgrade to Sibelius 4 from another program (Encore) and they didn't require me to surrender that program (not that I ever used it anyway. I bought it on eBay just to do the crossgrade). I assume the Sibelius 5 crossgrade works the same way. Better to check with Sibelius to be certain.

Samantha,

The way it worked in the past was that you sent in the first page of the onwer's manual/installation guide - no photcopies. The idea was to make sure you were the "owner" of Finale, and not someone using a pirated copy. I would assume it is the same - but check with them. It did not require that you stop using Finale, just proof that you were/are a legitamate Finale user.

I have both Finale 2006 and Sibelius 4. The new features in Sibelius 5 are wonderful. VST integration will help the way I work. The panorama view is outstanding. I downloaded the demo for 5, opened a choral piece I was working on, and it felt incredible. I could see the score in a new way, it seemed to invited me to make music. Hard to explain, just try it.

Well done and thank you Sibelius!

We are very pleased to be a part of Sibelius 5. VST hosting is excellent and was developed by the good people at Plogue (the same geniuses who have developed our new sample player). These sounds are also integrated with Sibelius programming.

It's quite a soundset Sibelius is offering its users. Also, there are new libraries Sibelius is offering - World Music and Choir!

World Music!

HIgh-quality samples of indigenous instruments from around the world, including Cuban percussion and a Taiko drum ensemble.

Choral!

Solo and ensemble samples for soprano, alto, tenor and bass, plus high-quality organ and piano sounds.

The World Music and the Choir libraries were recorded and developed specifically for Sibelius and based on their requirements. This is part of larger collections we are working on.

Looking forward to hearing some fantastic music made with Sibelius 5 and these sounds.

Are you saying that World Music! and Choral! are Garritan products as well?

I think you are reading Garys words correctly. It sounds like these sounds will be our first taste of what we can expect from Gary in the future. Cool!

You read right. ;) Just a taste of things to come. Can't get into details but we'll post more info when the time is right.

Gary,
This is good news, but you have to help me with something that I am being a little slow about. If I purchase Sibelius 5 and I have GPO with Kontakt 2, will I get the same control over GPO that I had with the Sibelius 4/GPO package?

Where I am getting confused is it seems like the articulation data (MIDI CC) for each library is different. Therefore, there would have to be templates or something similar to, say, tell a GPO violin to play pizzicatto or a JABB trumpet to play a muted flutter tongue.

It is kind of like a thermos. It can keep soup hot or a drink cold. How do it know? ~|

-KevinKevin,

You should get the same control as you had with GPO. The programming should be the same with all of the Sibelius hooks.

Like a thermos? Yes - it keeps the Starbucks hot and cold. ;)

Friends,

I tried the Demo and have ordered my Sibelius upgrade from 4 to 5, to get the new sounds and other wonderful features (the demo does not include any sounds, you have to use whatever you have.) Here in the UK delivery will take two weeks for some reason.

When I have tried the program out I will give you my reactions to it.

Congrats to the Sibelius and Garritan team for this very promising upgrade!)(~

Competition at that high a level is the best thing. ;)

Hi Gary,
Can you give us more info about World Music! and Choral!? There isn't much on the Sibelius site. No price and no library size. Can they be used by other software or are they exclusive to Sibelius?
Thanks,
Sergio
