I am pleased to welcome Randy as our newest moderator of the Garritan Forums. )(~ )(~ )(~
As many of you have seen over the months, Randy has been quite active and extremely helpful to other members.
He seemed to be a de facto moderator and it seemed only natural to bestow the title. His positive and pleasant manner has been a real credit to this forum
It is a real privilege to have Moderator Randy among us! :)
Gary Garritan
Congrats, Randy!
I'll agree with Gary on being a credit to the forum.
Certainly one of the most helpful and courteous members of this community.
Congratulations once again Randy......but remember, "With great power comes great responsibility"! :D

Gary,
Being a member of this Northern Sounds group of musicians has blessed me with a constant string of very good things--Camaraderie, access to great original music, stimulating discussions, and very fun surprises one after the other.
And this is the topper. I'm so pleased you see me as a moderator here at the Forums, and I'm even more pleased to say Yes and help out in this capacity.
It's an honor to be associated with the Garritan Corporation and this great online community.
Thank you!

It's such a cool surprise that Gary asked me to do this.
He's assured me that all I need to do is:
--once an hour run the Forums through a "forbidden word filter"
--to delete posts that don't mention a Garritan product at least once
--to publicly humiliate anyone who says anything negative about Native Instruments
--to ban anyone who doesn't reply to Gary's funny picture threads
--to ask anyone posting music which is just too good to have some consideration and quit putting up such great stuff (OK now, Christophe?!?)
--to ban anyone who uses the word "genius" when replying to a musical post in The Listening Room
--and to demand more posts are put up in the technical Forums since not enough people seem to be having complicated problems using Garritan Libraries.
Other than that, I can just keep doing what I do.

(rbowser): Welcome AngryForumMember! It's always nice to see new
members expressing their opinions, especially so passionately.
We here at the GPO forums very much appreciate all kinds of opinions
and you have certainly given us a lot to think about.
Now having said that, I wonder if your bold comments might be a
little bit derivative? I often hear people saying 'This sucks' or
'That sucks'. And don't you think that 'die in a fire' has become
a bit of an internet forum cliché?
Of course, that may have been your intention in which case I must
say that you have succeeded slendidly. Otherwise, you might want
to consider using a thesaurus or other online literary resource to add some
variety to your otherwise very expressive first posting.
Once again, thank you for sharing this. It certainly made me sit up

Noun: genius (geniuses, genii) jeenyus
1. Someone who has exceptional intellectual ability and origionality
"Mozart was a child genius:
2. Unusual mental ability
3. Someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field.
4. Exceptional creative ability
5. A natural talent "he has a genius for interior decorating" [but he would rather write music]

And then another annoying thing about my family name, I remember in school, I had this collection of "Bowser Bags"--what restaurants used to hand out for meal left overs. HOW many friends thought they were being original, giving me one of those as a gag gift.

Not a serious topic but a fun topic. The only thing that I take seriously on this forum is the valubale information and knowledge I gain from it emembers about GPO, Finale, Sonar, reverb, altiverb, principles of orchestration etc. All the rest is just part of the levity, humor and fun that can be had here as well.
As far as the use or over use of any word remains a matter of opinion. However I do respect your opinion regarding this word in question. What I hope is that you will also respect my wish to use the word as I see fit.
The only reason I mentioned the word is because you introduced it in this thread and I saw it as an opportunity to use the medium of levity, humor and fun to participate in the thread.
This will be my last response to this post on this subject. So, that being said I think it is time to let it go and offer use the word congratulation on your new post as moderator. I know that as moderator you will not have any trouble expression yourself to other forum members.

You are certainly not the only person who feels comfortable using the word "genius" and I didn't have you or anyone particular in mind when I threw that joke in. My teasing was in a general way poking fun at when any of us take ourselves too seriously. I'm sorry that I seem to have pushed your buttons.

Congrats, Randy! You will do great! :)
Watch out for the time spent on the bulletin board, though. I used to do the moderating/administrating thing for a large nursing bulletin board. I'm now retired from that responsibility. It was very rewarding and quite cool being part of a team to help make the nursing bulletin board a pleasant, safe, informative and friendly place for nurses to visit. But there were days when I spent HOURS and HOURS doing the moderating thing. This was time that could have spent writing music, taking out the garbage, vacuuming dust-bunnies off the floor, spending time with the wife, going to the bathroom, eating and sleeping! :wow: :wow: LOL! It's a great volunteer job. And I know that you will be quite helpful to the membership here. But moderating can almost become quite addicting sometimes. LOL! :)

Belated congratulations, Randy )(~ !
(Too much work recently - am only just catching up with the forum...).
Presumably you manage to compose so prolifically and offer excellent advice to so many people because you have espoused the Metric Calendar - 100 hours to a day, 10 days a week, 10 weeks a month - as otherwise what you do would NOT be humanly feasible. That being the case, it's obviously no trouble at all to add moderating to your list ! Seriously though - moderation in all things... make sure you leave time for yourself and your own music. Tis well worth it !
All the very best -

Tip of the Bowser hat and happy thank yous to Rusty, Jack, Viv, Ted, RichR, Chester -and also thanks for the excellent advice re: moderating in moderation. :)
And Styxx asked, "...Hey, so what model auto do you transform into...?"
Answer: In keeping with my Victorian era stage musical, naturally I turn into a horse-drawn Hansom cab. :D

Besides all the afore mentioned attributes a moderator must be sane.
You may have passed that battery of psych tests but you'll need true grit for what's in store for you.

The updater to GPO Sibelius ed. is now posted on the Sibelius web site help center page. Dan @ Sibelius has already told me that this is the update I have been waiting for. YIPPIE!!! haow ever his answer also left me with a question......
My question to him was: the updater I am looking for would free the GPO Sibelius ed. into a free stand alone version GPO that can be used in my Sonar 4 studio version......
Dan's Reply was: This is true........it will.....all I have to do is go into my c drive:programs:Sibelius: and then copy the Kontact2.dll file into my vst folder that sonar uses for plug ins.........(I understand this so I think to myself no problem)
My question to you is....when you work in sonar (and I know that you have the home version which you make scream!!!!!!) how do you make say a violin play,,,, do you go into the FX bin and then plug in the kontact player and then look in the gpo folder for the violin?????? or do you just go into the fx bin and look in the gpo folder and select the violin????
I am a little unsure of hoe this is done and since I know that YOU are now (and always will be) THE EXPERT, I knew that you could help me....he he he!!
and you know if this works then I will be able to get to the place that was my first intention....Sonar for recording.......sibelius for music notation and GPO for plug in sounds.............ohhhh hhhaaapppppyyyy day!!! No more dry sounds........I will be able to use reverb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! and delay
as always thank you for your help and inspiration
Cliff
PS....I know that this reply does not fit this thread.........I tried to PM you and your msg box is full and will not accept any more msgs...........to any one I offend because of this reply............Please accept my apoligies.......I am sorry........I do not mean to....I did sincerly try the other way first........but then again this question my just help someone else on this board.........

Hey, Cliff - Sorry about the PM box being full. I wish I could turn that option off so people just have to use my email--that's my preference. The PM is full of messages I don't want to throw out.
It's fine you asked your question there, but now to avoid continuing off-topic stuff on this thread (since it's technical help that nobody would ever see here) I'll answer your question directly by PM or Email. See you there.

Hi, Randy...
You CAN turn off PMs (Private msgs, that is...don't know if you have PMS :D
Just scroll down a bit & uncheck the "private messages" checkbox.

Hey, Jim "Snorlax" - Thanks! and Duh! I'd gone to my profile edit page, thinking that's where all those settings were--Of course, it's the preference setting deal here at the Forum page.
Great, I used the link you posted and I've turned PM off--Email is much better for me. So now I think people will just see the email option when they click my name in a post.
See - Just because I'm a Moderator doesn't mean I'm a know-it-all!
Thanks.
