Jazz & Big Band - Personal Orchestra Performance Patches now fully playable in the Kontakt Player 2 version 2.2.3 are available at
Mike's K2 Scripts (http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3h95m/k2scripts/)
The goal of the patches is to provide a virtual live musician playing the JABB / GPO samples. The provided controls are the mechanism for instructing this virtual musician how a phrase or passage should be interpreted.
To this end the patches dynamically generate all midi continuous controller values the instrument responds to based on user-defined settings. The scripts enable definable parameter driven legato and slur articulations with portamento, volume, intonation and timbre variations, natural sounding vibrato and various effects including breath and string noise and various pitch bend effects. The Patches also provide easy access to the sound shaping parameters of the instruments adding Convolution Reverb and Stereo modeling to the instruments.
Demo mp3's are available at the above link
Comments, criticism, suggestions and general feedback are always welcome

Mike, will your patches help me resolve the issue below? Thanks
"Hello, can someone please tell me how to set all Instrument Modwheels in Kontact 2.2.3 that are loaded at any setting other than zero and make it stick?
I find I have to reset the mod wheel after each instrument plays. I thought upgrading to 2.2.3 fixed this issue but it did not.
I appreciate any suggestions, documentation, tips, etc.. anyone may have on this as I have been trying to resolve this for a few weeks now and it is slowing me down."

Yes, the instruments scripts will generate all modwheel data based on user settings with the modwheel set to 0 or no modwheel messages.

Hi Mike. I tried out your patches and had this problem:
I keep my samples on a seperate drive and there doesn't seem to be a way to change the default path the Performance Patches uses to load the samples. I can manually do a search but it does not remember the path.
Also, there seems to be an IR and a wav file required which I do not have. Can you shed any light on this? Thanks. BTW, I'm using the K2 Player.

Paul,
If you save the patch after it loads with the manual search the new path should be remembered. As for the IR, select skip loading this wav then once the instrument loads select an IR from the available list and save the patch. The studio near wave is the default for all the instruments. You should have no problems with subsiquent loads

HI, I was wondering why your kp2 script isnt working for me. I use sonar 8, vst or dxi garritan jabb and orch - I put the script and assign to the same midi channel as my sax, and nothing happens. I read the .pdf, am I missing something,
thanks!

As installed the Phrase Modeled performance Multi is an empty K2 Player Multi. Instruments have to be selected into the multi and assigned to the channel cooresponding to the Sonar output channel. You also may need to configure the K2 Outputs assigning them to the Sonar audio channels created when the K2 Player was loaded
Hope this helps

how do I make the instruments selected into the multi? here's what I've done so far: open a vsti of k2
load a melody sax lite or regular sound
load your script from user multi as in pdf
set both to omni
play back my midi file
I get playback but no knob automation in instrument window, should I see any knobs moving?
should I see any activity in the script instance window, other than the midi flickering?
thanks so much, I'm sure this works great - I am just having problems;)

Andy,
The multi needs to be loaded first then the instruments. When working correctly you should see the knobs moving. When you load the K2 player the default multi Kontakt_Def is loaded. This has to be replaced with the Phrase Modeled Performance Multi for the scripts to run. Once you select instruments into the multi it can be saved with a new name from the Load/Save | Save Multi Menu. Also saving the Project in Sonar will save the complete instance of the K2 Player including the Multi, loaded instruments and all settings.

Andy,
Just noticed this thread is for the Performance Patches. They have been replaced with the Phrase Modeled Performance Multi which includes the scripting from the patches, but at the Multi level. Aside from ease of distribution the Multi enables scripting of all the Garritan instruments in the GPO, JABB, CoMB, Stradivari and Gofriller libraries. The Phrase Modeled Performance Multi can be downloaded at the link in my signiture
Sorry for the confusion

ahh, I'm getting somewhere now -
I was able to load the multi - and then from the dropdown arrow inside that,
I can load single instruments from my jazz and bb library. This works great!
The only thing is, I'm not able to load groups into this multi - is this correct? And, I am not seeing any of my garriatan orchestra instruments, only the jabb. Do I need to put the script in another folder to get those too? Hey, thanks for this, and the help -

Andy,
All the Garritan Libraries you own should show up in the K2 Player browser. If you installed the Multi to the Program Files\Native Instruments folder the Multi should also show up under the User Multis Dropdown

I did have the correct phrase version, and I am able to drag the sounds from
the garritan folders on the left and put them into the script and they seem to work. The only thing I noticed is that the strings only have mod data? the jabb stuff works grea though, the orch stuff only has mod data for me. I did put the script in the native instruments folder and it shows up in my user multi as you said.
thanks again, keep up the great work!

Andy,
I think you have the version of the multi that was distributed with the Performance Patches. This version only scripted vibrato and note timings with both GPO & JABB. The new version was posted about 2 weeks ago. With this version you should see Porta, Length, Var1, Var2 and Modwheel knob movement with the GPO strings as well as keyswitch between the Up/Down bow, Sustain samples and the legato pedal cc68. Also the scripts are programmed to work with the Notation version of the Garritan instruments in all Libraries except the Gofriller. It will not work correctly with the past versions of the Performance Patches

I got the most recent, and it seems to work well now - I think this is a great 'quick and dirty' way to live'n it up. I think you have something really cool here. The one thing I noticed is, and only on the strings, is that the mod wheel seems a bit to overshoot on dynamics up and down - not so bad on horns and winds though. It's probably setting somewhere, quzntize or something -
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to help me through this,
Andy

Andy,
Unlike the unscripted instruments, Volume i(modwheel generation) is based on velocity. In your string example you might want to lessen the velocity values or smooth them out. You can keep the attack strength by setting the velocity scale cc29 to a positive value. This value is applied to the velocity after its use for volume.

thanks for clearing that up -
One more question,
If I have multiple instruments in the multi script with different midi channels (script set to omni), all the knobs are moving, but are they individually unique? or is the same algorithm applied to all instruments per script/instance? thanks again,

Andy,
The script reacts differently for each channel determined by the instrument loaded. A Program Change message on each channel determines the scripts action. This is what enables, for example, scrpting the Gofriller Cello on Channel 3 generating CC11 messages, the JABB Alto Sax generating Modwheel, Air Noise, Key Click, Portamento, Legato etc on Channel 5 and the GPO Viola generating Modwheel, Var1, Var2, Portamento and Key Switch between the Up/Down Bow/Sustain samples on channel 7
