Is anyone using IE7 with Finale 2007/8; full GPO and KP2? I tried it last year and had some low memory issues while using Finale 2007 and the full GPO in a full orchestral score. It may not be related, but I would like to upgrade to IE7. I did have some issues with in internet browser (AT&T Yahoo) at that time as well. I could not upload attachments. That may have been due to the fact that I installed IE7 and then uninstaled it. Some of the IE6 files were currupted as a result.

I've seen IE7 slow down the performance of quite a few machines. and not just for browsing. I'm talking about even booting up and running other programs.
Uninstalling it in Add / Remove Programs cured the issues those machines had anf got them "back to normal."

I'd definately not have it in any machine I own.

General advice:
Disable Automatic Updates if you own XP.
XP is at end of life.
Wait for XP Sp-3 and be very selective about what you allow to be installed.
If SP-3 forces IE7 then make sure you have a full image to restore to before testing sp-3.

Pray that the Linux community get's a grant to write audio card drivers. )(~

When I installed it and then uninstalled it, I ultimately spent more than ten hours on the phone before I could find someone at Microsoft who knew how to remove the currupted files and restore IE6 back to its origional file setup.

Along with some others on this forum, I found IE7 intefered with Flash files. As a result all the music examples in the Rimksy orchestration course vanished. The solution was to revert to IE6 where I still remain.

I tried IE7 for less than an hour, and uninstalled it. It slowed my PC down dramatically when loading multimedia content, and was, IMO, actually less user-friendly.

But uninstalling it didn't give me any problems... just relief.

I installed it the other day too and it slowed my system down big time, I just uninstalled it from the "Add/Remove" programs list, and everything is back the way it was... :)
what a joke :(

I stopped using it when i started only using my Mac. Now everything is back to the way it was and my hair has grown back.

Leaf, at your hair has a chance to grow back. I go from problem to problem. Latest problem: clearing the firmware on my router by trying to clear accidental blocks on the top sites I vist (this one included).

My recommendation for those dealing with Internet Explorer-related problems: Get Mozilla Firefox or Opera. Heck, the only thing I've used internet explorer for recently was to get Firefox.

I have it too. Can that be the cause of "it takes too long to install other programs" ? Sometimes for a fairly small program I have to wait more than 15 minutes.

I've installed IE 7 on quite a few machines and it works about the same speed as IE6. There are a couple compatibility issues at work although most have now been fixed. BTW, I don't have it installed on my main music machine.

Yeah my only question is, why aren't you using Firefox?!??!

Didn't I read recently that IE is no longer the most used browser anyway with all the trouble it was causing with security and then the IE7 major bugs.

Tom

IE is still the top browser, but it lacks in many areas (such as compatibility with the W3C standards). It currently has about 60% of the market.

Firefox has about 25% of the browser market and you have the other browsers (Opera, Konquerer, Safari, Camino, Epiphany, links, links2, lynx, Mozilla Suite, etc.) taking up the other 15% if I remember right.

Only one way to find out. Uninstall it!

Caveat!!! Be sure to have an up-to-date backup first!!

I just removed ie7, and am now testing. So far, seems faster, no troubles.

Firefox for 2 main reasons:

1) It isn't IE
2) Extensions and add-ons

When I first installed IE7 I soon discovered that it had caused problems with my scanner for which I had to get a patch to fix. Shortly afterwards I downloaded Firefox and it is all I use. I've not uninstalled IE7 because I had heard horror stories of people who really had problems when they did so it is still on my machine. I just never use it anymore.

IE7 is what's wrong with the World Wide Web, in addition to being what's wrong with your Windows XP installation. I know that Microsoft is going to do everything they can to make you install it, but it sucks. Good luck in keeping it off your machine.

Use FireFox instead. It's great. And stay away from surfing with IE6 and/or IE7 whenever possible. They are magnets for drive-by installations of spyware, malware and viruses.

Eventually you may decide you need to get a Macintosh. And you can run FireFox on a Mac also.

Actually, for Mac, I would recommend Camino. Although you can't install extensions like you can with Firefox, it's optimized for OS X has almost all of the features of Firefox.

Good point. Camino rocks. But because I go back and forth between a Mac and a PC every day, I use FireFox on both machines--since it looks and works identically between the two platforms. It's the simplest part of my admittedly complicated cross-platform schizoid existence.

I'm about to install Windows Vista on my new MacBook Pro, to use with Boot Camp and VMWare Fusion. Please pray for me.

Camino is waaay cool no doubt about it. However, add-ons and extensions for Firefox keep me from moving to anything else.

Well, except when I have to use Siebel for work. They won't support Firefox so I have to use IE. Fortunately I can call up the page in Firefox and then use the add-on View Page in IE to load the page in IE. :D

I think I have an addiction problem with add-ons. Maybe I need help. Currently I have 18 installed and I know of at least 10 others I need to add. :D

Well, I have removed IE 7, now using IE 6, but won't use it as a browser unless I must, as that is when I find I have been hit by virus, trojan, etc. After about 48 hours, I think my system operates the same with either.

For browsing, I use Firefox, which works well everywhere. Some sites that I use do not work with Opera, and will work with Firefox. So Opera is not useful to me.

It's easy to keep of your machine. Just disable automatic updates and whe you do choose to check updates be selestive.
There is also an option "never show this update again."

Firefox is very cool for sure.
