Panning recommendations

Can some of you share advice on practical pan settings for the different instruments in the orchestra when doing a mix down to create the most realistic sound for a sampled orchestra? Also...reverb settings for the different instruments. I know there are probably hundreds of possibilities, but a good basic guide/idea would be helpful.
