Thought some of you might get a kick out of this. Interviews with Hans Zimmer, Trevor Rabin, Christopher Young, Mark Isham, Jeff Rona, Cliff Martinez, etc. about GigaStudio. Bonus points if you can tell me what music we \"borrowed\". images/icons/smile.gif

You ripped off Horner\'s beautiful \"A Beautiful Mind\" score. images/icons/frown.gif
I always think it\'s silly when people do that.
Edit: furthermore, why are there only like two seconds of Zimmer talking in that whole thing? images/icons/frown.gif

This is an exerpt from the 20-minute video we did for the product line at NAMM. So the product bullets made sense in that context. So did the film clips, talking heads get old in a hurry in that context.
And since it was NAMM, we wanted to show it in comparison to synths. We\'ve already got the guy who\'s into streaming samplers, I\'m trying to reach the guy who thinks the piano and string sounds in his Triton are \"good enough\".

Triton is an instrument with sound, maybe not the best sounds, but it\'s an instrument. Will there be any sounds shipping with GS3?

Is it posible to elaborate a bit on the \"tons\"?
-at least what kinda \"genres\" would be covered? I suppose gigapiano2 is at sure bet?!
thanks in advance.

We\'re still pulling together submissions, so I can\'t talk about what\'s on there yet. I\'ve heard rumors of multiple DVD-ROMs full of sounds.
GigaPiano 2 comes with all versions of GS3, however a limited version without the instrument resonance is included with GigaStudio 3 Solo.

<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">nice, I hope they are presented in a \"complete library\" way...not as a teaser. There could be some distinguishable sounds in there like. everyone knows the \"M1 Piano\" or the \"Fantasia\" patch. GigaPiano2 wouldn\'t be distinctive enough. Signature sounds help give the instrument a palpable identity, IMO...
I actually think it\'s a good idea to market this as shown. It has a good audience, to the ones like me a few months ago: I didn\'t know what Giga was at all and got a Triton in the pursuit of good sound. So, how about that\'s video #1. Maybe video #2, should have this other audience hungry for advanced details. Then again, people interested in those details can\'t wait to order in April...

Oh shoot, I just realised I bashed another company\'s product in a semi-official capacity. I was just using that synth as an example of a great-sounding instrument that doesn\'t have streaming samples, I should have said \"brand-x synth\". I love Korg. You\'ll pry my Wavestation from my cold, bloody fingers. Please don\'t sue me. images/icons/frown.gif
Oh man, you should see Hans Zimmer\'s new studio. I could die in that room. A working fireplace with a pair of armchairs where you can discuss business. A giant room that feels like an Austrian castle, the back wall covered in Moog and Roland modules. A wine rack nestled into the equipment rack stuffed with Carrilon PCs running Giga. Framed original manuscripts scattered about, Mahler, etc. Bookshelves everywhere, one fully stocked with full scores. Really neat lamps. Everywhere you look is just to-die-for.
Christianb: I\'m as hardcore Mac snob as anyone. I\'m listening to my iPod as I type this response on my G5. You just get a PC (they\'re way cheaper than Macs!), load it with Giga, plug a MIDI cable into it, get audio out of it and you\'re done. Just leave it on all the time so you don\'t have to see the Windows flag every morning. images/icons/smile.gif

I may have to look into that quite seriously.

You actually don\'t have all of the people who are into software-based synthesis. I have a number of VSTis, none which satisfy. I know that there are other people who have jumped into the software revolution so to speak, but have yet to find it as appealing as it seems like it ought to be. IOW, I\'m ready to be convinced that Gigastudio 3 is better than buying Sampletank, Sonik Synth 2, or Hypersonic when your talking about comparisons to hardware workstations. I know that the sounds can be better on Giga, but to try and get a broad library is a rather daunting task.
My interest is based also on the disatisfaction I feel using my sequencer as an instrument. It doesn\'t look like a musical instrument, it wasn\'t designed to be an instrument, but here I am, using it as an instrument, popping sub-windows open and closed to view synths and change parameters.
My hesitation with Giga comes from some bad experience installing Gigastudio 24, but I\'m willing to take the time to make it work if I can get a software instrument that actually looks and feels like an instrument, especially if a workstation-like complement of samples is included with that instrument.

I wanted to score it myself, but there was no time. The week before NAMM is just a blur, my wife is still pissed at my being AWOL for two weeks. So the editor\'s temp music stayed. Sorry, in retrospect I shouldn\'t have made light about this.
There will be a much longer GigaStudio video coming soon. We got so much good interview stuff but just couldn\'t fit it into the few minutes allotted. We had to stick to the \"marketing soundbites\", which Jeff Rona and Christopher Young gave us more than Hans for whatever reason.

Hi Jeff,
A few quick reactions:
You know what? I\'d lose the marketing soundbytes after the intro, and get into the interview stuff. When it continues on as soundbyte after soundbyte, it gets boring after the very first round.
People are going to be a lot more interested in meaty, substantial talk about the sampler, not just the streaming aspects. That\'s old. Everybody does that. What\'s amazing about GigaStudio compared to OTHER streaming samplers? THAT\'s the question you want to answer.
I\'d also show a LOT less of the film clips. All you\'re really saying there is \"guys who score films you\'ve seen use Giga.\" Doesn\'t take much footage to say that.
(Is my producer hat showing?)
Best regards,
Bruce

Some follow up. I just reinstalled Gigastudio 24, downloaded the latest update to 2.54, installed, closed my eyes and held my breath. No crashes or BSOD!
Could be the latest update, that I don\'t have anti-virus software anymore (ISP has a web-based system), something else, or a combination of them all. Regardless, I\'m enjoying Giga. I hope it lasts.
Is there an upgrade path from Gigastudio 24 to Gigastudio 3? images/icons/smile.gif

Hi Synthetic,
For what you intended the video to do, I think it did a good job; my only slight concern was that people might think the music that goes with it was done with GS. If you get a number of name composers talking about orchestral mockups and you hear an orchestral score in the background you tend to think *that* was done with GS.
For GS owners like me I felt it didn\'t offer any new information; I would have liked to have seen more about the new interface, the new features etc.
That having been said, it was great to see some of my favorite composer\'s studios; indeed, Zimmer is showing again who\'s King images/icons/tongue.gif
I thought I was a gearslut but jeez....damn! images/icons/smile.gif
Is this his homestudio (I understand he doesn\'t work at MV anymore?)
Cheers,
Joris de Man
