Hi, folks.

I currently use Finale 2006's ability to playback my score through GPO and record it as a .wav file. I then go into Creative's audio lab to convert the .wav file into an MP3 (and I'm quite happy with the resulting sound file). I've seen, however, MP3 files encoded with artist name and song titles. Is there software I can download somewhere that would enable me to encode my name and song title into the MP3?

If you're on Windows you can just right click the file, open its properties, and change the file's basic tags right in there, such as Title, Artist, Genre, etc.

If you do use Windows and want more control over the ID3 tags (and functions such as batch renaming), I recommend a program called ID3 Tag-It (http://www.id3-tagit.de/english/index.htm).

Just to clarify something

the information in the ID3 tag of an MP3 (i.e. those artist names and song titles you've been seeing) has nothing to do with how the song is encoded. It's information added to the MP3 file after all the audio processing is done. So the proper thing to do would be to create the MP3 file however you like and then open it with ID3-TagIT (my preferred program, also recommended by somebody above) to add whatever information you like.

In Winamp click View info and update informations.

In iTunes, you right-click, then select Get-Info, and fill in the composer, album, etc...

Winamp and iTunes (and windows media player) all have pretty good support for it, but don't give you as much control or let you change as many fields as a program made specifically for tag editing. (unless I've missed some new development :))
