Me too.

Have you tried The Grand 2? It's in the ballpark, IMO.

The "new " factor aside, is it really a big step up from the Ivory and GalaxyII -type products?
Demos anyone......anywhere.........

According to Gary Garritan (read a thread somewhere) there will be only user-made demos online after the product actually starts shipping.

That's the big question... I think, personally, that's there's plenty of room for improvement.

John,

I agree that there is room, I do not have the perfect virtual piano yet. But if its still samples with lots of controls(like GalaxyII) how much better can it be? I think the next big leap would have to be in technology/innovation but I would LOVE to be proven wrong by Garritan.(He has done it before!)

waiting................waiting.................wai ting.................

I'm thinking that the room for improvement is mainly in the area of tonal quality. And I don't mean that the sample should sound like a real Steinway (or whatever the sampled instrument is) played live.

Speaker technology makes that impossible.

But what we should have is a sampled piano that sounds as good (or better than) a modern well-made recording of a live solo piano performance.

Sure, we can make recordings of piano samples that, if verbed up enough, etc., are indistinguishable from low end live piano recordings. But the samples don't provide the realism of most current decent recordings of live pianos heard through average sound equipment.

Apparently, according to Gary in one of the threads in the Garritan section of this forum, a lossless compression scheme was used, so maybe we can hope for a reasonable instrument size. He's also creating a new web page for the piano that should be ready in the next two weeks.

ALL sample libraries, no matter how good or how skilled the user, sound like the real thing until you put them next to the real thing. And personally I hope that never changes.

That said i think there are some pretty terrific piano libraries now.
