Janne Sibbe (Sibelius)

I read in todays Sunday Times that Sibelius was a chronic alcoholic in the years immediately prior to his death. JS is my favourite composer but in all the biographical stuff I've read about him there was no hint of this.

Is it true?

I only ever read two or three biographies, and one of those did mention it (although I'm not going to be able to tell you which, or how to find it, because this was when I was at university 12 years ago). I seem to remember something about him going into a dreadful depression and simply retiring from composition for the last 10 years of his life, or so, and one book suggested that he did quite a bit of drinking in that period.

No it is NOT a girls name. It is a legitimate french name. Jean is male and Jeanne is female. You should consult your french teacher..... ;)

Examples: Jean-Baptiste Lully, Jean le Baptiste, Jean-Baptiste Pierre Antione de Monet, Jean Cocteau.......
