Chester, since his youthful days as a percussionist for the Antarctica Symphony, had always fantasized about this moment. When he hit middle age, and the feeling of abandon that often comes with it, he had never, until this very moment, had the courage.
With his devoted wife Amaryllis looking on nervously, her bag packed for immediate flight, (even though she knew they couldn't really fly, nor even waddle fast enough to escape the inevitable, however happy their feet may be), Chester stood bravely poised to finally act on his life-long fantasy, though it meant certain death.
He froze. Everything is frozen in Antarctica anyway, at least until global warming destroys life as we know it -- but that didn't concern him at this pivotal moment. Was his fantasy more important than life itself, and the lives of those he loved? He paused, and his life with Amaryllis flashed before him, her devotion, their long trek to raise a family, through biting winds and below zero temperatures. Their chicks, now grown into handsome young penguins. Should he do it?
Then in a flash, he saw the polar ice caps melting, compliments of humankind's mistakes -- the fish dying, the earth flooded, all his penguin friends sweltering and gasping for air in their little tuxedos as the temperature rose to barely freezing.
And in a moment of existential despair, he re-played in his head his favorite symphonic fanfare, which was written by Ken Weissman (rustyCrook) of the Garritan forum, and arranged by another forum member. There was one loud cymbal crash in that piece, a standard in the Antarctica Symphony's repertoire and an audience favorite (when the audience was not hibernating), and he had always done the cymbals. What a way to go out, with a bang as they say.
The moment approached, and in an explosion of musical fervor....
CRASH!
[All goes dark]......
THE END

Anna: Hurry, we'll be late! Stanley: But he told me to wake him before the polar express left for our next gig!

Berty Bear found that, by circulating the rumour that he was stone deaf, he could avoid having to chase his food.

Penrose, in a desperate stunt to have a role in the documentary March of the Penguins, tragically mistook the title to mean something entirely different.

And so Henrietta stood with the grim satisfaction that Carl was actually dumb enough to do it.

It's over Mabel. I'll show them... they'll never have me to kick around again. Ignoring my talents as a percussionist and not choosing me to play in Vaughan-Williams' Sinfonia Antartica. Good-bye cruel world...
If the bear spoke Italian, he wouldn't have ordered the piatti.
I like schneb's about the March of the Penguins... very clever...

Gary finally got round to recording a new crash cymbals sample with a much improved attack.
