What a gorgeous treatment of a great old standard. Boy, does this one take me back. I can almost hear Nancy Wilson singing as you play. You have some strong chops, my friend. Thanks for doing this one.

Dan:
A beautiful rendition of one the greatest old standards ever written.
I really admire your harmonic language.

Thanks alot guys!
I just hunt and peck on the piano.
I copied this by ear from an old cassette tape of my friend Jay Oliver playing it one night in the studio.

I don't have those kind of chops, but boy if I did :) Woo Hoo!

I just didn't want this to be misleading in that way.

Beautiful rendition Dan,

would it be possible to to get a lead sheet of the tune with your altered chords?

Hi Abraham,
what a nice compliment.

Unfortunately, I don't have the music for that
recording of Here's That Rainy Day". Funny it is
raining outside right now.

My good friend Jay Oliver played it one night at the
studio many years ago out of his head just for kicks,
I had recorded it onto a cassette just to take with me
in the car back when cassettes were cool :)

I do everything by ear, I copied his chords from the
cassette tape andf used Digital Performer to make my
own recording.

I could email you the midi file from Digital
Performer.
I'm not sure if that would be something you could use,
but you are certainly welcome to it.

I love chocolate cake too, so I can relate to your
analogy, Jay does play beautiful chords. Did you hear
it on Northern Sounds?
Let me know if you would like the midi file.
Thanks Abraham!

Nice work Dan! I guess I'm still climbing out of my classical-only music education background, 'cause I have to admit that I've never heard this before. But I like it. :) [Heck, I was 22 before I heard Mancini's Moon River...or any of the famous tunes from Casablanca. I got a LOT of catch-up to do.]

I just hunt and peck on the piano.

Nicely played or pecked--sounded so nice I listened twice! Going for threesies in the background right now. Nice way to start a Saturday morning...

Dan,

Have you considered re-releasing this with the new Authorized Steinway? I'd love to hear it with the Player Perspective.

Just a thought on a lazy Saturday morning. :)

nice, Dan. Do you mean the same Jay Oliver that does all of the keyboard work with Dave Weckl? If so, I am really envious.

:)

Infinite5ths, I completely understand that your age has caused you to miss the time when some of these tunes were new. The wonderful thing about these awesome songs is that the recording can be played for many many years. Something Bach and Beethoven did not have the luxury of. Our generation is truly blessed, and I am more blessed because another member like you posts something positive about something I have had a part of creating.

Keith wow, I'm glad you like it too!

Jaybee, as you wish ....

Alan, yes, Jay is a great friend of mine, when he was just seventeen, I recorded his band. I was about 20 I think at the time.
Jay and I have learned from each other. It has been a great time all these years. I have been blessed to know Jay and hang around with Dave Weckl both, I won't name drop and say I have hung out with Chick Corea, but Chick does still owe me 7 bucks for a power strip on a gig. :D

Heck, I wasn't even chalking it up to age -- just lack of exposure. But OK.....I'll let you play the age card for me. ;)

I enjoy your work and your forum participation. Keep it up!

Thanks, Dan. That really sounds cool! But . . . the last few bars are missing. I dunno what happened but it stops just before the last ". . . but here's that rainy day." You might want to check it.
I love the sound of this tune with that perspective. It really has an intimate feeling! Thanks.

I can hardly wait for my copy to arrive. :)

Thank you Mike :)

Jerry, I reposted the link,
weird I have no clue why it did that, but the link has the full song now.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Dan, This is very, very nice. Would you be willing to post your settings for the player perspective of the Steinway? For some of us just now getting set up with using the GUI, it would be helpful. Many thanks and great work, John

Hi bigears,

the most recent version with the "player" perspective,
I used the stock settings, but I did have to turn on the
sustain resonance and sympathetic resonance.
I left the values where they were.

Here are the setting of the Chopin Scherzo that is posted on
Garritan's Steinway demo page (http://garritan.com/steinway_demos.html).
Thanks, :)

Classic Perspective

Mechanical noise 12
Sustain Resonance 11
Sympathetic Resonance 34,
Ambience: decay 53, diff 0, size 45, predelay 93 ms, width 100, quality 100, variation 0, top of the wet fader is in the middle of the dry fader.
