View Full Version : Audigy's Reverb: It's pretty good

Installed an Audigy card the other day. Definitely and improvement over the Live card. Especially the reverb, frequency response, and overall clarity.
Maybe I\'m going out on a limb here, but the reverb seems to me much better than Live\'s verb, and also much better than the best soft verbs for pc, like Ren verb, etc.
A good example of Audigy\'s verb in action is the E Flat Minor Fugue (#8), the F minor Prelude and Fugue (#12), and the F sharp Major Fugue (#13) and the B Minor Fugue (#24) at my mp3.com site:

But Audigy is still not GSIF compatible right?

I didn\'t get a manual, so I have no idea. Could you elaborate?

Yup. Using the card with Gstudio no problem. Great reverb. The best I\'ve had the pleasure of using. No clipping that I can detect either, unlike sblive. Still, I suppose there\'s better out there, but not for pc with realtime verb, which is what I wanted.

The Audigy is not GSIF compatible.
That means you can use it under Win98, where GS will work with DriectSound cards. Under WinXP/2k, GS will only work with a GSIF card.

There\'s the answer. I happen to use 98 so I guess that explains why I\'ve had no problems.

Hmmm...there\'s always a new twist isnt there? I didnt know this about Audigy, which isnt even specifically mentioned under Direct Sound cards at Nemesys yet I dont think. Very interesting. I\'m running Win98se also and have been intrigued by Extigy, the external USB version of Audigy which might also, therefore, be workable with GS on a direct sound basis.
What about the \"multi-client\" issue? Can you run a software sequencer AND gigastudio simultaneously with Audigy, John? Thanks for the info!

Well, I do. But then I\'m only running one or two samples.

Hi John - I just meant to ask - will the Audigy work with GigaStudio? (Nemesys calls that a \"GSIF compatible\" card.)
I\'m a pianist too, by the way, with an emphasis on JS Bach. I\'ve enjoyed your MP3 performances and we\'ve \"talked Bach\" a few times in various Bach forums - tho I havent been active in them for a couple of years.
There\'s a pretty extensive software sequencing program for classical music coming along over in Sweden called Igor Engraver (www.noteheads.com) - now in version 1.6. Have you seen it? It used to be freeware and apparently it had quite a few bugs early on that have now been worked out. Looks like it would be great for classical music and the Igor developers told me that Creative Labs is developing drivers for the Audigy card that will allow Igor to use sample sounds (rather than just the GM synth module attachment which Igor presently requires) in the near future.
So Ive been watching the Audigy card the past few months. I was wondering if you were using it with GigaStudio? I assume not - Nemesys still doesnt list it as \"GSIF compatible\". Aren\'t compatibility issues always fun? Regards, John B
