OT: New Toy

Well, my new toy arrived today. Not the Steinway, which will wait until I get a new computer. It is the Oxford-Duden German Dictionary, 1752 pages. I opened it at random and learned a new word. I can't use it here!

Reminds me of a time I was on a radio quiz. It was an inter-university music department quiz, and one of the questions we got was,

"What word did Beethoven originally use to describe the theme from the Diabelli Variations?"

The actual answer is 'Schusterfleck,' but the member of my team who had to answer had no idea. So the presenter gave him a clue, "It begins with 'Shh' and you can say it on the radio."

Well I don't know what went through my teammate's head - he surely could have realised that it had to be a German word, but the second the clue was given he blurted, "Sh*t!!" Fortunately it wasn't a live show.

Congrats on the Duden though - I had to get rid of mine recently because we were running out of space.

Das finde ich sehr interesant. Weshalb denn hast Du den Duden gekauft? Sprichst Du Deutsch order lernst Du es? Auf jeden Fall ist dieses Wörterbuch, glaub' ich, ausgezeichnet. Viel Spaß!!

Fast kein Gelegenheit, Deutscch zu sprechen. Aber frühermals (1961 - 1974) war ich Dolmetscher. Zur zeit, ich lese deutsche Zeitschriften und Bücher, zB, Geshichten aus dem Wiener Wald & Peter Camenzind.

How many languages do you understand/speak? I can account for Dutch, German, French, English, maybe Chinese? I hope your foreign language spell checker is better than mine, which is nearly useless.

Ebenfalls hier bei mir gibts es jetzt auch keine Gelegenheit Deutsch zu sprechen. Als Kind damals in Südafrika glaubte mein Vater es wäre besser mich in eine deutsche Privatschule zu schicken. Also, wurde ich für zwölf Jahre auf Deutsch unterrichtet..... Ebenso kommt meine tolle Familie aus aller Welt !!:eek::eek:
