Hello, Today I will be having some surgery on a herniated disc. I have had severe sciatica for the last month, and hopefully will get some relief from it today. The forum and the new Garritan Steinway have been a godsend for me through this. I have literally been awake 22 hours a day and can't stand or lie down for more than an hour or two. I want to thank everyone for their kind comments on my first few posts here, it really has meant a lot to me these last few weeks. I will be in hospital for a couple of days, and then "I'll be back." John - I completely understand. I bet the sciatica is down your left side. At night, I guess you stick a pillow between your legs and do all the nightmare exercises - or maybe not. Surgery must mean it's pretty drastic.
I first did a disk about 4 years ago and was unable to walk hardly at all for about 9 months. And then a year later I did two more with similar results. Physio was the only treatment and it's hard to explain to anyone about sciatic pain.

Get well soon John! I didn't know that was related to disc problems. Hemingway, you'll be fine and back to the forum in no time! :)

Best of luck with the surgery.

John -

I've known your pain. 'nuff said about that.

My best thoughts are for a careful and successful surgery - a risky proposition at best, despite the countless hours of practice the surgeons have had.

Be well, get better sooner.

As one with a bionic lumbar spine, I assure that you will feel better post-op.
I had my surgery 40+ years ago...it was in its infancy then, and is now
even better!!

Hello everyone and thanks so much for your kind encouragements. I am back home again following the surgery. While I can't say that I feel much better just yet, I do feel a lessening in the sciatic pain I experienced for so long. The surgeon had planned to trim some bone from a vertebrae to expose the herniation in the disc, which he planned on trimming away from the nerve. He said that he found an empty disc with fragments of the inner material against and embedded in the nerve. So I guess what I am feeling now is the trauma from the surgical proceedings of removing those fragments. I hope that this will pass in due time and I will feel much better. Thanks again for the comfort of your comments. John

John, please allow your body to recover from the trauma of surgery.
Do not be in a hurry to do anything. RELAX

So glad you made it through surgery OK!

John, sending my good wishes for a speedy recovery! I've been there -- the awake for long periods, and it's not fun at all!. Sorry I'm just getting to this msg -- I've been in and out, a little swamped.

Best wishes,
Karen

Having been through spinal surgery myself, I hope you're feeling relief by now. I know that the relief for me was immediate, although I didn't lay back as much as I should have immediately after surgery and that was painful and probably made recovery longer. Take the drugs, but don't be silly and over do it - recovery takes a while.

My good thoughts are with you...

Happy to see you're back (no pun intended). ;) Ya have some healing to do and as DPDAN mentioned; "please allow your body to recover from the trauma of surgery. Do not be in a hurry to do anything. RELAX" Yes, please take your time and heal well.
