I posted a new mp3 demo at .com. Mix could be better, but the choir samples are great. I also used one of the drum beds from the upcoming release Quantum Leap Stormdrum. This is one of the few slow beats in the collection. Mostly its big action beds.

Hey Nick, howz about a link? The demo there seems to be the same killer demo as before. Where the heck is the new demo??

Try the non-mp3 demo above it.

Alright Nick whats up....I mean it...I think we both know what Im talking about,...Last fall, I dropped 500.00 bucks on SOV, because it was the most \"aggresive\" choir lib on the market at the time, 2 days later you announce VOTA...now EXACTLY 2 days after I buy Perc Adventures you annouce an action loop/bed library!! ARRGH...well at least i have QLB so I can dial up the wah trombone and play \"The Price Is Right\'s\" loser cue...wa wa wa waaaaaa.

Drake,
The drum bed library is 90% fast action stuff with big drums. Its different from percussive adventures. It also includes a real drumkit, as well as hundreds of percussion instruments. It was recorded live to analogue tape, with one drummer and 3 percussionists playing together, at the Record Plant. It won\'t be done till the fall.

Alright Phoenix....were cool...but for a few minutes I was starting to wonder....good luck on the new library!

Sweet Nick,

Its hard to tell when you\'re joking or not nowadays.

I thought the Action cues were jsut for yourself. Put me down as a potential Buyer...and Definite tweaker on that library. If you can do seperate \"elements\" like PerAdv does. I\'m SOOO down http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif.

You\'re going to put me in tweak heaven with this sucker. I love tweaking grooves.
BTW missed my Fed Ex of the VotA update...I\'m a jackass. thanks for getting it out to use so quickly. Hopefully tomorrow.

new demo definitely needs to be mixed http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif Like the monks sound, but like the older mp3 demo more. Still....can
t get that sound through another library...

Hey Nick...nice job throwing in that non-vibrato stuff in Angels gig. Really nice...missed that the first time around. Appreciate the hard work...different library.

Hey KING:

I missed FedEx too!! And I was home the whole time Goddammit!!! I hate it when that happens.

Nick: looking forward also to the new perc. library, sounds great.

What happens to me regulary is that when you ring, they tell you someone was already at your door.

Even if you are 100% sure you were there sitting all day, drinking coffee and watching the clock...

Same with LOP this week for me. This driver just went back to his office, thinking my (home) office would be closed at 18:30.

Track-and-trace it on their website, then start calling when the package is getting within 25 miles...

My 0.03 cents (inflation)

Peter

NICK:

OK so they arrived today!!! I haven\'t even installed the version 1 CDs so what do I do, simply install the NEW CDs and forget about the original ones?

Are there help files to explain what\'s in these new patches? (3 new Discs, no printed docs).

Thanks again for updating your library!!!

All the info you need is on disc one! The are word and/or text files.

And, yes... I know my name is not Nick http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

You can put me down for this one straight away!

Will the library be just loops or multisamples as well? Will the loops be in construction kit format? i.e. How much flexibility will there be to add and remove elements from the loops.

Cheers,

Aaron

Jsut got to playing with the new updates.

I like,

The key switch instruments are really comfortable and help with layouts and basics. The new consonants sound like they are going to be pretty useful, have to sit with them for a little bit.

Love the crossfades. For some reason they sound \"smoother\" than I would have expected.

The \"demons\" are fun, and I still dig the angels patches.

This library doesn\'t have that problem I always had with it anymore...no programming http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

It really does make it a better library IMO. A lot more confortable to use..

Also I think you can use that yellow tools keyswitching app to make some useful dual port instruments with all vowels available through keyswitching, as well as crossfading between them. Maybe even four port versions for long words where you want the vowel soudns to be smoother. jsut an idea for you VotA users. I\'ll probably get into doing stuff with it soon http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Version 2 is a whole new library that replaces the old one. So, if you don\'t have the old one on your drive thats great. Just install the new one. The booklet from the old one is still somewhat valid, but there is some additional info on disk#1 of the new library .Don\'t forget about the demons on disk 2 and the angels on disk 3.

Demons and Angels heh? Ya know what show I work on........this library should be VERY useful!!

Just listened to the new demo - sounds pretty damn good Nick.
I just got QLB so once my bank account recovers, I\'ll probably pick this up as well.
thanks for the continuing support of your products, it is much appreciated.

Nick or whomever: Does VOTA ship with some sort of software tools or special giga programming to do the vowels etc?? As a long time sw engineer, I can think of three ways to do this in programming so that once you get the song down, you would spend maybe 1/2 hour assigning the vowels and so on. Just wondering...

KingIdiot

dwd,

The new update has alot of programming in it. Vowel Crossfades and pitched consonants.

Also there is a really cool keyswitch instrument with all vowels accessable via Keyswitch. VERY NICE IMO. Makes it easy to do quick mock ups, without consonants. If there was an app like Maestro for this Id be quite a bit happier http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

After laying out the melody for the demo and creating all the backing tracks, it took, in truth, many hours to perfect the choir parts with consonants and so on. Its still not easy, but it works. Actually the slow stuff is the hardest.

Nick I threw together a quick little \"toy around\" that took me about a half hour with all the filtering I applied ot the loop I used and other things. No consonants.
www.musicyouneed.com/888/votaup.mp3 (\"http://www.musicyouneed.com/888/votaup.mp3\")

I was gonna try makign some words out of iit, but its a little tweak, just to see how the Key switches worked in actual \"use\".

I have to say I love it. It makes working with this library really quick. I can\'t believe I played all this in real time.

I dig the filters as well.

of course better stuff could be done with this library, but its just a little \"fun\".

BTW I still have some programming ideas http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif

so maybe at some poitn another ART file.

Love the choir sounds. Very well done. Does this set have Staccato samples like the \"Ha\" samples in the old Classical Choir set?

Thanks!

King,
Sounds great. I like the drums too. Maybe you could do some remixes for me on the new Stormdrum release, if you want.

There are staccato ahs in the collection, but more importantly, there is a fast percussive attack version of every vowel, at every dynamic, available via keyswitch. If you tack a consonant onto the beginning of these, its magic, and limitless.

KingIdiot
03-15-2002, 04:13 PM
Nick,

now that sounds like fun http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Depends on when you\'re planning on release, but I\'ll E-mail yah.

Its going to be a disciplinary choice for me.

As everyone knows I love to tweak, and I could get lost on groove tweaking for ages, especially if I can get \"out there\" with dopplers delays and filters http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

that can seriously cut into some work time http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif

but hey,....who needs sleep?

VERY nice King of Idiots! When I see you (hopefully at the GDC) I will pick your brains about your work methods. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif I love rythm/beat stuff like that. It sounded great.

KingIdiot
03-15-2002, 07:16 PM
hey dwd,

Thanks.

that demo is a very quick thingy. The percussion is jsut a loop from Percussive Adventures that I put some rythmic filter changes on. A pretty simple gig. Once you get your hands on good loops, it makes you sound amazing http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Actually I\'ve been building my own loops from the countless percussion and drum CDs I\'ve bought over the past year or so. I\'ve also even been looking at sampling my own world percussion.

The best thing to do, is to sit down and mock a rhythm you like that you hear. And play it with different drums.

You can then do crazy things from there like filters, rearranging, recycle, to get that \"electronic\" feel. Plug Ins. Outboard gear....etc

Usually, for whacky percussion it all starts with a good loop and going from there.

You can go really crazy with multiple tracks and multiple filters and rearranging, and plug ins on top of it. All sorts of different combos. This is how Eric Persing and those guys at Spectrasonics get those cool sounds, not to mention they\'ve been doing it for a while....

anyhow I suggest Percussive adventures, its a great loop library for this type of stuff, cheap as heck in akai format right now at . and audio CD format is only 75 bucks, thats WAY cheap..tho the Akai version comes with extra stuff, so I suggest going for it atleast.

It is lacking in the \"live\" sound which I think Nick is gonna go for.

Can we expect a Shaft Hi Hat Nick? http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Yah something good about VotA http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

There\'s very little mixing in that cue on my part. I dont even think I used any reverb on the choir, and the \"bass\" is a patch from the Roland Orch 1 board. Just some limiting to get overall volume.

OK...I admit...I\'m stupid I guess...but how are you guys getting this update?

How does Sounds Online know where to send this if you didn\'t get it from them?

I bought my copy of VOTA from Sweetwater Sound (who I suppose got it from Sounds Online). What do I have to do to get the update??

Thanks KI. Your tips will give me an excuse to ust the TC filters for something. I figured they would be useful for percussion, and the EJay stuff also has some built-in filters to play around with. Still, hope I we get to chat at GDC.

OH yeah. Almost forgot. I was writing this while listening to some B.Brown and your little number (above) and aside from some understandable rough transitions in the voices, it blinded right in with the rest of the music. I think that says something. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif

Nick, sent you an email yesterday, my update CD\'s are defective. Tried them in both CD drives, running the EXE and dragging and dropping with WinRar manually after copying them onto the hard drive. The 2nd files of the Mens and Womens choirs seem to be defective. (According to WinRar.) Dunno if that means CD\'s 2 and 3 are bad, or if it\'s possible that CD 1 is bad and misreporting data. The Angels and Demons gigs are intact. (And very nice, I may add. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif )

Do I need to contact East West directly?

Nick Phoenix
