Here\'s a very short demo from a huge library I am working on right now....

This is coming straight out of GS with the good ol\' NFR reverb on it. As a matter of fact I\'m playing this demo with the mouse and not even from the keyboard!

PS...no LFO\'s to answer your first question

You are a brave man, Donnie.

And I can understand why you said it\'s going to be a huge library. There are so many nuances in a great solo sax performance... so many different things that can be done. I think that it is the instrument that comes closest to the human voice.

Having said that, the samples sound really nice. The fast runs still seem a bit synthetic, but what the hell do I expect from a mouse performance. And I would guess that such fast runs will be addressed with separate samples.

Good luck.

PS - I\'m looking forward to getting LOP as soon as I can nail down a bit of cash for my studio upgrade / overhaul to Logic.

Very nice indeed Donnie http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif. Best sax I\'ve heard so far.

Hey Donnie,

I like the sound of that sax! Is this library only going to have one kind of sax, or several?
Also, congrats on your remake of the Prosonous Orchestral. It is my first library ever, and I think that for a full orchestra there\'s no better price/quality ratio out there. Why isn\'t it being promoted better? I think it deserves it!
Keep up the good work http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif

As sax is my primary instrument, I don\'t really have a need for a sax library. However the sustained sound on the library sounds excellent.

As someone said the fast runs sound synthetic, but perhaps that is the effect of using the mouse and not a keyboard.

Great stuff Donnie! I guess tweaking this in a midi sequencer can make the fast passages sound more realistic. Sounds like a winner.

Nice sound Donnie.

Will there be any player input as far as vibrato speed? (I\'m not for a moment suggesting you use LFOs.)

Impressive samples, I like the vibrato fade-in.

Too bad it\'s a sax. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Hey, there\'s no such thing as bad sax. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Hehe... I guess sax will never be fully accepted by you \"orchestral-minded\" people. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif

Sounds good, Donnie. You know how to make your customers curious for more. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

It really is too bad. When written for properly (only the French composers seem to understand this) the sax can be used beautifully in an orchestral environment. It is important to get a player who has a background in classical playing and doesn\'t have a \"jazz\" tone, but it works quite well.

Not to pat my own back, but I\'ve played with orchestras (mostly Bizet) and I\'ve had numerous people come up to me afterwords saying things like \"I never knew a saxophone could sound like that\". So many people are preconditioned into thinking saxes only work in big band and jazz that they don\'t think about how they would work in classical situations.

Perhaps the soprano sax is the only one frequently used in orchestras. I forgot that.

\"Hehe... I guess sax will never be fully accepted by you \"orchestral-minded\" people. \"

\"Pictures at an Exhibition\". Ravel had no such bias and we shouldn\'t either.

I would also love one just for Jazz arranging. Small 30\'sish ensembles as well as big bands. The demo sounds great and the faster phrases do sound like they just need a little tweaking in a sequencer. Best sounding sax sample I\'ve ever heard. If you have the vibrato mapped to the mod wheel I applaud you even more. I\'ll definately cheack it out once it is done.

No Bizet wrote quite a bit for alto sax. And hey, there is one track on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade that has a alto sax solo. I don\'t know if Williams owed someone a favor or what, but that is the ONLY time he has used a sax outside of jazz writing that I can recall. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

I think it is a chicken/egg situation. Not many people write orchestral music for sax because there aren\'t a lot of classical players. And there aren\'t a lot of classical players because there aren\'t any opportunities to BE a classical player.

Thanks for the comments guys....

Yeah I agree that I could have made it a lot better but I\'ve always been a big believer in my demos of making them as rough as possible. I mean if you can make an instrument sound pretty good with a mouse imagine what you can do with a keyboard and some tweaking! http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

So Donnie,

you gonna tell us what the hell this library is? or jsut leave us hanging out to dry? Who\'s doing it?

I know Sonic Implants is working on a \"horn\" library with saxes and stuff, but I\'m pretty sure they do their own programming.

Allright, David!

There\'s another GS person looking for \'that sound.\'

Donnie, if you can pull this one off, this will guarantee you a spot in the \'Sampling Hall of Fame\' being erected in Tennessee just outside of Graceland. (It was originally scheduled to be situated next to Disneyland, but the founders didn\'t want the sounds to be too Mickey Mouse. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif )

But I don\'t get it-the classical gang may not like sax in the orchestra, but where would all those Raymond Chandler-style movies be without Plas Johnson?

I would think this is a BIG must-have for any serious film composer. It certainly is for all us jazz, smooth jazz and funk/blues types.

It will only ever be a must have for me when I know what the hell it is! ;P

When might we see it Donnie? I\'m on a project that would heavily benefit from good Sax samples.
