Could Someone Explain Articulation Files?

I recently got some art. files for Gary\'s strings, and I\'m embarrassed to say that as a new Giga user I have no idea what to do with them, or what they do. Could someone explain these?

Articulation files are all the info about a particular gigatstudio instrument EXCEPT the actual wav files, ie the envelope setting, regions, etc.etc.,.

This is handy if you have a set of wavs, but need to have instruments which have slow attacks or different tunings etc. One set of instrument wavs can have several articulations associated with it.
