Hi everyone, a short time ago, I received some very sad news about John Taylor. Most of us on the forum know him as taylorchandler. John's doctor informed him that there is no treatment or cure for his cancer, and John would only has a short time to live.
Dan Kury (dpdan) lives about five hours from John in Missouri and while they have never met, Dan's heart went out to him, and offered to help him any way he could. John asked Dan if he would create a nice recording from his finest and final work named Journey. Dan graciously obliged. I thought that other composers will benefit from John's music and be inspired to create their own masterworks, wherever they are in their life's journey.
John writes.... "Journey started as a series of sketches in 2004. The first time my wife Robin heard them strung together, she described experiencing a journey through the different themes and textures, joy and sorrow, good times and bad. The title stuck. This piece has been revised a number of times with the addition of sections inspired by memories and changes in my life. I experimented with different styles and techniques, some worked and some didn’t. The Garritan community has, and will continue to have a meaningful, lasting impact and benefit for all those who pursue it. We are having a good day today. Thanks again, Robin and John."
So, through telephone calls and emails, John and Dan were able to come up with a recording of his Journey.
Please listen and reflect on John's finest work:

I am listening now in awe of the talent. First from the composer, what a wonderful piece of music; so many textures, such intriguing counterpoint. You weave a marvelous tapestry of sound and soul! My prayers are with you and your family. I have enjoyed the discussions you shared on the Friday Chat times.
Secondly, Dan, what a fantastic engineering masterpiece. You are an inspiration to us all. You have a great talent and you share it with the world. Your musical ability transcends individual instruments. You have a true gift of organizing sounds into soundscapes of momentous proportions.
My heart and prayers are with you always. Thanks for touching our souls!

John and Robin:
Congratulations on the birth of John's music. Yes, I said born.
Whenever a composition is played for the first time by any
orchestra or ensemble, it is said to be "born."
In your case, you had the most talented conductor and audio
engineering specialist I have ever met--Dan Kury. Dan did a
magnificent job producing John's music. In my opinion, the
composition sounded "live" and that is the most important
consideration when one listens to music.
Dan is not only a master mixing engineer, he is also an
outstanding human being. When someone really needs help,
whether requested or not, Dan will volunteer his services without
hesitation. Countless members of the Garritan Forum can attest
to this, especially myself. In listening to John's music, I was
impressed with his love for producing elegant orchestral textures.
And, with Dan's help, John's music is now a record for posterity.
That is one of the greatest aspects of creating music. It can
help others long after we, as composers, are gone. Think of all
of the masters of the past and what their music has become to
millions of people all over the world. Mostly, what effect it has
had on them..........
Please know, John and Robin, that my thoughts and prayers are
with you both. May you share many happy moments together because
none of us knows how long or arduous our "Journeys" will be.
Thanks for the music, John

John and Robin,
My heart and prayers are with you both as John faces that
destination at which we all must inevitably arrive... if all too
soon.
John, you will not leave unremembered. Our music is our
legacy, that which lives beyond our days more surely than
anything else we do when our time comes to move on to
the next great adventure.
And it is just that, I know beyond any shadow of doubt.
Magnificently done, my friend; and a piece to which I shall
return... listening to it speak for you into the future.
I wish you peace.
All my best,
David

Hi John,
Firstly, I am heartbroken :( I didn't know that you weren't well. :( I have enjoyed countless hours chatting with you in chat and always enjoyed our conversations. I must have missed that day. I'm very sorry for that. Hopefully, you'll be up to visiting chat again.
Secondly, I am having a very difficult time getting through the piece without breaking down into tears. It's truly beautiful, and I hear so many things in it on an emotional level. This piece is truly amazing!! :) Beautiful writing, beautiful everything, yet heart-wrenching at the same time. Truly a masterful work!! :) Thank you for sharing this with us!!
I am so sorry, I don't know what else to say - there are no words to properly express what I need to. :(
I will pray for you and for your family - for strength, healing and peace.
God Bless,
Steph
