View Full Version : Any word on the Steinway update?
stranded

I have been loving the software, and using it on many of my new productions. However, I am definitely waiting for the update which will fix the specific sample issues, as the few problem notes are popping up on my recordings. Any news on when we can expect it?

None.......
Ooooo, the suspense! It's like waiting for the initial release all over again!

Hi Guys,
I've been so busy working on Steinway changes that I tend to miss questions here. I'm definitely working on this full time, and probably the best answer I should say is it's getting sooner and there's one or two things we need to get in right now. Minor changes and also some major changes (you may not see all of them in the first update) are in the works, all for the better of course :) Hope this helps a little.

As long as it's not imminent! :)

Thanks for the reply, Jeff! I'm willing to try an update, doesn't matter if it's not perfect yet.

I just ordered the professional version and would like to know when the update will be posted.
Thanks,
Sergio

Any word on the Steinway update?
BUMP
Maybe even a word as to when we can kinda expect it? I wouldn't hold anyone to a specific date but to say "soon" a month ago is very relative. "Soon", in business terms usually means within the quarter but to the customer it can mean a week!!
So, any real word on the update? Even a progress report on the testing? We're fans and we're hungry!!

OK, since we're not hearing a peep on the update (hopefully that means that everyone is busy testing it and can't find the time to pop in here and update us) I was curious if anyone has heard anything on the CME 3-pedal deal that was originally supposed to happen back in August?

I idly stopped by their place and found an update (Version 1.01) at last.
There is no explanation of what problems it addresses.
I can hear no differences in the perspectives I use. The over-bright D# (note 75) in the Underlid perspective is still as nasty as ever.

Yes, I've been wondering about that CME 3-pedal deal, as well. Will that still be happening, Gary?

Sometimes waiting is a good thing. Never serve a wine before it's time.
I don't need the pedals now as I have a Digital Kawai provided for the solo gig.
I learned a while back to never buy anything newly released. It's the way it goes these days. Pressure from the consumers, and other competitiors can cause early released products to be, well, unfinished.
But thanks to everyone who has posted on it's lack of advertised features.
I am sure it will be ready for NAMM 2009.
Thanks To NS for the thread. It saved me valuable time and money.

I'm sure it'll be ready when its ready, but gee, I hope its soon. Got a session coming up in a week or so where the piano has been requested - and I do need the inconsistencies upgraded so as to recommend it.:)

This is peculiar why we aren't getting any word on the update...
I have a project that I really need to start (I've been putting it off waiting for this update) and it would be nice to know if we're talking a week, a month, next year?
Please Garritan? Ball park it?

They posted version 1.01 here www.garritan.biz (http://www.garritan.biz)
Yes, I'm aware of that version but that isn't "THE UPDATE" that we're all waiting for!
Thanks tho!
And still no word from Garritan.

Here's a bit of an update on what's happening, as I posted in another thread. I've been working continually on the update and on the Steinway Basic, and intending to post when they're ready to download. I think maybe this was not the best idea since people may not know the piano has been in constant development or may feel the project is ignored - not the case in any way at all. here's the status- I've been developing the Basic version (alongside the updates) with significant new techniques, which has all been applicable to the update, and vice-versa. I think perhaps the scope for the update has been greater than ideal though, since small changes are probably enough for many people. I'll communicate with the team tomorrow to see what might be possible for the near term to release or if there are issues that might make that difficult. I'll post more then to let you know--

Ah also, the 1.01 version was an ARIA update that fixed a few bugs and some very specific problems people were having in particular hosts I believe. You can see http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63127 for more. It's quite useful, but it's not the update that I've been working on for the Steinway.

Jeff,
Thank you very much for this status report. It means a lot.
Just a quick question, though: Will the update fix the hiss?
If I crank the EQ treble up to get more bite and 'unmuffle' the piano, the hiss becomes unbearable (for me, at least).
I asked this because you take care of the programming only and not the sound, right?
It does make sense to put out an update with the several major problems fixed and worry about all the other things in another update.
For myself, I have been VERY happy with this program. But I do not use it in a solo context.

I talked very briefly with David and we should release a 1.02 update with some current fixes and changes, so that people could relatively quickly have an updater to download. What would need to be done is to build the release installer and test it yet. 1.02 would have some but not all the work that's been done, and a favorite change may not be in. The changes overall I think will be useful.
Any news on this? THANKS.
