Just for starters, for PC we have....
Rverb (Waves)
Hyperism
Sblive (Card)
Timeworks
TC Works
Gstudio\'s verb
ETC., ETC.,

1. NONE OF THE ABOVE ARE GREAT, BUT WHICH IS THE BEST?
2. ANY REALLY SUPER EFFECTS CARD FOR PC COMING DOWN THE PIKE?

If you\'re budget strapped then go for Silverspike\'s reverb. Its a brilliant piece of software design that offers outstanding results for just $39. I find I\'m using it more than my pcm90!!.

I\'ve always quite liked waves rennaissance reverb and the cakewalk soundstage too.

Waves Renaissance verb is a fantastic verb for PC. Its got great depth and warmth. Much better then the TC verb IMHO.

I agree with you about Rverb v.s. TCverb: Rverb\'s a lot better.

I used to think Rverb was the best soft verb going. But I\'m starting to like Sblive verb better than the lot, which may only show that I\'m getting desparate.

Verb is the single most important effect, IMO. It can make or break a good solo piano cut.

You\'d think someone would dedicate a pc card to verb. Many folks like me would pay for something really good.

Are there still problems with UAD?

Does anybody can explain me why hardware reverb devices are usually considered as better than software one? Is there a reason for this?

Waves and Soundstage. I also like Accustic Mirror.

Hi John,

You should be able to use UAD with CuBase. I know many folks use it with Logic. Remember though that generally you need to record the performance in MIDI then record the audio into your sequencer and then use the UAD for effects during mixing.

So I guess UAD would work with Wavelab, as well. I guess the problem is that when you pay for a card you expect realtime effects.

Still, have you used the UAD verb? If so, how does it compare with the others (soft and hard).

I don\'t have the UAD. Still considering that or the Powercore. The UAD has lousy drivers right now so I am at least waiting for that to be fixed. About the expecting realtime efx bit. I am sure it can be done somehow, so you hear it while you play something through a UAD plugin, but I don\'t know. You get realtime efx in the same way that all VST/DX plugins are realtime (as long as your host/DSP can handle it of course).

I checked out UAD. Not Giga-compatible.

J.G.

Re cards to go with software like TC verb. I don\'t think the card does anything more than supply an alternative platform for the software. No affect on sound quality, just cpu usage.

MartinL: Hardware verbs are (at least many of them) better than SW ones mainly because you can \'afford\' more complicated algorithms when you have a complete DSP or two available just for reverb. On PC/Mac you have to take into consideration that your verb shouldnt eat 100% of the CPU.

UAD not GigaCompatible? huh? Well no, actually no effects except NFX are GigaCompatible. UAD uses VST plugins so you can use it in your sequencer like any other VST plugin.

I wonder whether the SB Audigy Card has improved the verb? Anybody know?

Well, we could call SBLIVE effects Gigacompatible, couldn\'t we? I mean it works realtime with my setup, and it\'s the only card out there that does (I think).

For UAD, Simon, does that mean I COULD use it realtime with, say, Giga and Cubase? Excuse the latter question. I\'m not knowledgeable about VST.

J.G.
