Hi!
Wizoosounds.com has just started and offers samples in giga, halion and exs24 format. The samples seem affordable, and it is possible to buy the same instrument with fewer velocity levels for a lower price. Anyone downloaded some samples yet?
Cheers

That should be a nice site in the future, for now all i see there are sounds from their AKAI libraries they have transfered in GIGA and other formats, which is not a bad thing in itself (if you dont already own these libraries) getting to download individual sounds is a cool option especially when you\'re trying to keep old libraries from dying like those, they have been out for quite a while but they are good specially the rhodes http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

I downloaded the Yamaha Toms, Premier Snare, Zildian HH and Ride all in Giga.
This is my first foray into drums sampled in more than 5 velocity layers. It makes a huge difference. I really love the quality of all these downloads, especially the HHs for running 16ths and the ride for creating some energy. The key mappings makes it easy to get really good grooves going.
The quality of the Toms is a standout as well. Very rich harmonically, well pitched.
The only sound of the bunch I am luke warm on is the Premier Snare.
For less than 6 or 7 bucks a gig, it is definitely worth the download if you are trying to plug holes.

I love these kinds of resources, like Sonic Implants, only this is way more granular. But a Tom for 6 bucks.. Cool. I hope that everything that is up there now, and everything in the \"coming soon\" lists, is eventually made available in Giga format.

I just bought the Jazz brush kit - Giga version. It\'s awesome. Loaded right into a project I\'m working on. 5 minutes from idea, to purchase, to download, to using. Great concept. And $5.95, please it\'s a no brainer. I also agree about the whole anti-piracy thing. I think people will pay for individual downloads and not be sharing them all over the net for free - I know I won\'t. This kit is too good to share........

Hi everybody,
new to this forum and just wanted to let you know that we\'ve uploaded a bunch of new instruments for Giga. And yes, everything developed in the future will be available in Giga format.

Hey Peter. Went to your site and listened to the Hammond sounds. Very cool offerings.
I think what you\'re doing is absolutely on the right track. Sometimes, all I want is \'that\' particular sound, and I don\'t want to spend $500 and wade through a billion articulations to get it.
Fantastic business model. I sincerely hope you succeed with it. I\'m certain that I\'ll buy some of your sounds and I\'m sure many people here will. Can\'t wait to hear what\'s in store for the future.
Best of luck with this! Take note developers: These guys are on to something.

Just want to add (and not looking for an argument) this IS the way to combat piracy.
Some of these sounds cost as little as three or four dollars.

uh...what the...WOW!
Really, this will send a quick wake up call to sample developers. Actually, now sample developers have a distributor they can sell individual samples to and let them deal with the small guys. Like me!
At $6.00 a pop, this is like going to the candy store.
One thing good about their business model, if the web pages and commerce scripts are written well, this site should almost be maintanance free, which means more profit. If they can add more and better samples, while keeping the price low, they could be THE place to buy samples on the internet. This would be a cool place for smaller non pro developers to sell their home created samples through too! wow...

I have my eye on a few and am waiting for them to go giga. Some stuff I have been needing like the Brazilian Kit. Looking forward to vocals.

I reckon there\'s a whole lot of small sample developers in this forum. I\'d like to invite them to contact me personally even if they just have one or two instruments on offer.
A good opportunity maybe Frankfurt Musikmesse. Our booth is 6.0 A32. We will also show the first preview of our new String Orchestra and our Grand Piano (the huge and super-elaborated version of which is \"The Grand\" VST from Steinberg).
Thanks anyway for the great welcome guys!

Question: Why are the giga drum kits 16 bit when others such at Battery not?

Rabid,
Giga is at this moment a 16-bit format. Most of the samples created for it were originally done in 24-bit, but have to be (hopefully) dithered down to 16 for release. THere is an unconfirmed rumor that version 3 of Giga will be 24-bit, but when I posted a concern about having thousands of dollars worth of libraries outdated, the response was pretty much poo-poohed (which does NOT mean it is not a valid question!)
The respondees took great pains to point out how much we would lose in polyphony, bandwidth requirements, etc. but did not convince me.
The hardware is only getting faster, and will certainly be able to support 128-voices at 24-bit in the near future, if it desn\'t already (2.0 GHz processor streaming for 10,000 RPM disks, should be no problemo...)
But for now, 16 bits is the floor.

Thanks for the info. \"Sounds\" like I might be better off keeping most of my drum parts in Battery.
And I agree. I think then when prople are ready to record final tracks most record one instrument at a time so polyphony would not be that big of an issue. Why not let us choose if we want 16 or 24 bit. Most of my soft synths work that way. I keep everything low until I am ready to finalize.

Peter, kudos to you guys at Wizoo.
Your business model is an outstanding idea. Selling individual instruments? This has got to be the most simple and effective idea I have seen in this business for a long time. Now why didn\'t I think of that?
Damn! http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif
Good luck. I think your ideas will carry you a long way.

We\'ll show a preview in Frankfurt (Booth 6.0 A32) and hope to have the first instruments up the site by the end of April!
