View Full Version : Classical Choir Library mp3s - Some fooling around

I was fascinated by the word building capabilities in VoTA and Maarten\'s use of classical choir in his Faith demo so I decided to give it a go. I added some ambience and breathing sounds to the mix. It could probably sound better but it is a really tough and lengthy process to build words in a sequencer.
The first part features choir only:
http://finjaco.home.online.no/Jazz2k_-_Requiem.mp3 (\"http://finjaco.home.online.no/Jazz2k_-_Requiem.mp3\")
The second one is a full orchestral mix.
I could certainly use a little more bite in the samples and I was thinking this could sound better with VoTA. Let me know what you think.

(For your information they are saying \"satan must reign!\" in the beginning. Don\'t take my words on it) http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
Oh and another short excerpt from a piece featuring a heavy backbeat + orchestra and choir:

In \'Satan\' the samples do sound like they have enough \'bite\' but they\'re just a bit obscured by the orchestra.
Again, a very realistic rendering of some of your \'patented rousing music\'. Great stuff. (I enjoyed the reverb especially - hee, hee). Couldn\'t make out a single word (never been able to make out a single word of any classical choir (even when I was singing in one). But this is enough to make it convincing (to me and my cloth ears).
I loved the \'ambience\' in the first one -makes all the difference.

Donnie, it\'s Peter Siedlaczek\'s Classical Choir (not the extended one). I bought it ages ago, haven\'t put it to any prominent use until now.

Thanks Z6 http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif I always thought the small details of ambience could make a world of difference to static samples (the classical choir samples are pretty static)

Hi Thomas
Great! - I\'m sure you\'ve been told this before but: you are very talented.
In the first on is the wavering your hear, the loops? And what kind of reverb stuff
are you using? - I like the way the consonants are reflected in the room.
Bjk
oh - and by the way:
Danske piger er sku\' da dejlige, men det er Norske nu også. :-)

I read yesterday that the SNO Chorus was on a visit to the Norwegian fjords and went missing - possibly kidnapped.
Thomas? Behave yourself:-)

what can i say?
amazing, wonderful, terrific music and sequencer work like always thomas.
the same samples?i mean ,kirk hunter and prosonus spicato for the fast passages?and your private brass library?
zoom for the reverb?
requiem part 2 was the best orchestra emulation i\'ve ever heard.

Hey TJ,
sounds good, but you would probably love VotA.
Is the rolling \"r\" in requiem a time stretched sample? or triggered in 32nds/64ths/multiple notes? It actually sounds pretty good. I hadn\'t tried it yet, but wanted to. fool around with ideas to create gutterals and rolls like that.
about the process, I think with Nick\'s new update it will become a much easier process. Part of the problem is that the consonants have to be matched so perfectly volume wise jsut because the tones dont always fit. With chromatically sampled consonants it should be much easier. Another thing I\'d like see is longer consonants that aren\'t so percussive. It makes it much easier to fade them in and out for me words become much more fluid.

Thomas:
Great stuff! Especialy Requiem, this is the first sample choir piece that I like more then Maarten\'s Faith. Honestly, it would be very hard to hear this is not real if heard in a movie. And the last demo Dark is very nice. I\'m impressed again..hehe http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
Just don\'t let media venture guys catch you and turn you in to a \"Zimmerite\"...hehe
King:
Is it possible to get the kind of \"mood\" we hear in Requiem with VOTA?

I haven\'t really tried that hard lex
I would say no off the bat just because VotA has alot of power even in the non expressive samples.
!!!!!!!!!!!BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alot of that has to do with volume more than anything. Filters and clever sequencing and good reverb can do alot.
I have gotten some GREAT results with the angel sound. Getting a nice Danny Elfman \"OOOHHH\" and \"AHHH\" like Edward Scissorhands.
Anyhow, did you hear that VotA word demo I did some time back?
http://www.musicyouneed.com/stuff/votawords.mp3 (\"http://www.musicyouneed.com/stuff/votawords.mp3\")
that was without \"trying\" to get a mellow sound out of it. and I hadn\'t put in any Male vox. I have Ext Classical Choir and can say that the sound is much more mellow out of the box. The thing to consider with ECC is that Male and Female sounds are mixed in one sample. Still it sounds great for stuff like TJ\'s Requiem and Maarten\'s faith.
Hey TJ. Wheres the \"breath\" in requiem come from?

Thanks again guys! Feedback really means a lot to me! I\'m very glad you take the time to listen to my music!
Ricardo Botticelli: What can I say! you are one of those who inspire me for all the music I write. I cannot express how much I appreciate the feedback you give me! Thank you very much!
KingIdiot: The \"r\"\'s are actually from the multisampled \'Rrr\' patch (sampled in 3rds I think) which works very well. I added a release envelope of about 0.5 sec to it to give it a natural sound. The same goes for the \'Vvv\' and \'Zzz\' sounds.
I\'m gonna pick up VoTA as soon as Nick is done with the update. Can\'t wait to try it!
Thanks,
Thomas

Oh I forgot about the questions!
Sapkiller: thanks! The \"wavering\" you hear is unfortunately the loops. I couldn\'t get past this issue. I believe the extended choir has better looping(?)
The reverb is a measly old zoom 1202 which I just love! I\'ve been running my mixes through a TC m3000 but it doesn\'t give me that stereo image I\'m after. It\'s a great box though, just not for me.
Og jo da, danske piger ER faktisk dejlige. Måske ik\' så dejlige som norske, men... Svenske flickor är otrolig vakra! http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif
Ricardo: Same samples as usual. Kirk is playing the doubled 1st & 2nd violins melody line while prosonus is doing the runs. My brass is doing the rest. AO percussion.
z6: I\'ve got them in the basement. Had to knock a few of them out coz\' they were shouting and kicking and people were getting suspicious http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif

Doh forgot to answer your question, KingIdiot. The breathing was ripped off of a choir cd http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif Can you guess which one of the million choir cds it is? http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Fantastic stuff Thomas. Works like \"Satan\" pisses me off and sends me back composing. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif How long did it take to put together \"Satan\"? I know how long it would take me: not a short time. (OBTW, that number has a glitch/skip at about the 2.03 min mark, at least on the version I downloaded. Those fjord gremlins at work again I bet.) I particularly like the mix and dynamics. Great balance of instruments too. Well, time to hit the controller....
And thanks KI for the VOTA demo. I would like to see more examples of this lib in use.
