Pingu suggest this Word of the Week: SKEWWHIFF
(It can also appear hyphenated as 'skew-whiff').

Turned or twisted toward one side
"the branches on the christmas album are, as the British say, skew-whiff"

Pingu writes that "Northerners in Britain use it all the time, but I'm beginning to realise, from the strange looks I get, that it's not very common anywhere else".

Thanks Pingu for this week's word.

We have some other words volunteered and feel free to keep those words coming.

I think i recall once seeing Skew-whiff in my alphabet soup.

Ooh i remember now, it wasn't skew-whiff, it was Dave "The Snake" Sabo.

This word is also used in Australia.

I have never seent it written before so never thought about spelling.

Did I ever askewwiff my clothes are skew-whiff?

...and as long as we're talking about skew-related stuff,

Did I ever askewwiff your distribution is leptokurtic or platykurtic?

That piquant discussion of peakedness piqued my curiosity for a moment or three or four about the mean.

There once was a young man fron Kent
Whose mind was exceedingly bent.
One day he got scared
And, unless I have erred,
You expected a rhyme here with "skew-whiff."

Reber's search for a rhyme for "skew-whiff"
caused a fall off the limerick cliff...
In reasonable time,
He discovered no rhyme,
shrugged his shoulders, and said "what's the diff?"

I actually have a copy of the Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology which ties "Skew-whiff" with "Skew" which comes from "Eschew." Hence "Askew" which can also be "Skew-whiff."

Not funny, I know. But, there you are. ;)

Skew Haiku?:

Her coat was skew-whiff.
Her hair was auburn and gold.
A picture for me.
