MV scores? Anyway... I donīt see a Waldorf synth for the typical BEEFY sound. I have a microQ and the sound is a lot more thin and tinny compared to stuff like Supernova and Virus.

Simon,

Media Ventures action scores...so then I should stop trying with waldorf and get a Virus b then?

For basses Waldorf would not be my first choice http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif At least not Q and mQ - dont know the others as well, but I believe that īGermanī sound is written allover Waldorfs synths.

For basses, Supernova is known to be really good. Virus is not bad either, and Virus can do A LOT more. Lush pads, in-your-face distorted sounds, weird efx etc. Nordlead is also an option.

You can program that kind of bass with any synth that has a good lowpass filter..
I believe it\'s mostly done with a sawtooth lfo (|\\|\\|\\) on the filter, and then using a couple of detuned square\'s on top of each other running through this filter.
Then you can use the mod connected to the filter to open and close the filter so the lfo becomes more or less pronounced.

Cheerio,

Joe

Simon,

Have you tried John Bowen\'s Prophet for the Pulsar?

I usually do that \"pulse\" with filters and ride the filter in real time.

I built a gnarly synth sound on my Korg Analog modelor. Really small patch tho,...needed to be for the project I used it on. I got nice results just riding the CC11/volume control http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif but thats because I couldn\'t use filters on it http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Anyhow, yah the Virus would be a nice one to have http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Nope but I have the Pro-1 - pretty nice synth. I am a bit reluctant using Pulsar these days though, since the sluggishness of the GUI is p*ssing me off.

Now I am not sure exactly which sound we\'re talking about. LEX, could you point me towards an example of the sound? Because if you need a good meaty bass, Q/mQ is just about out of the picture. Also, detuning/detuned unison sawtooths is not what springs to mind when I think about synth sounds used in e.g. Planet of the Apes (this is Danny Elfman, not MV - I know, but the only score that springs to mind with \'bassy synths\').

Lex, congrats on the VIRUS! I must say you\'re a man of action http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Simon....

hmm...it\'s diferent fom Elfmans paning saw\'s in apes...it\'s more like a pulse, so I think Joris is right...
this clip has that pulse on the bigining, from face/off....

...but I think I\'m fine now with virus, it was just not possible to get this with my deranged Q... http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Apparently Elfman owns a virus, and I\'m pretty sure I recognize it in Planet of the Apes and MIB.

I\'m music editing an action telemovie where the composer is using a Virus b synth he just bought for the project based on my recommendation, and the action cues are practically writing themselves.

I myself am looking for a good excuse, actually any excuse will do, in order to buy one. Although the longer I take to get around to buying it the more I worry about Access bringing out a Virus c, especially as I\'ve been hearing rumours lately.

Aaron,

Yeah there is some talking about Virus c, but that\'s why you can finaly start to find second hand Virus B cheap... http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

check out http://www.emu.com/artist/d_elfman/interview.html (\"http://www.emu.com/artist/d_elfman/interview.html\") - no mention of Virus, but interesting anyway.

Have a look at this list:
http://www.access-music.de/faq/index.php4?c=2#2020 (\"http://www.access-music.de/faq/index.php4?c=2#2020\")

A few of the credits are shonky, I\'m pretty sure Hans Zimmer didn\'t do Scream 2, but they list Elfman there. Eric Persing is there as well.

Hmmmm....I\'m quoting myself...it\'s actually giving me a nice warm post-moderny feeling.

Anyway, I just found out they used a HZ \"Broken Arrow\" track in Scream 2. It\'s still seems odd to list him as if he\'s the main composer.
