For any Thomas Newman fans, I mocked up the Prison theme from Shawshank Redemption last night.
Strings-GOS
Brass-Dan Dean solo french horn, Miroslav Fh
Xsample Harp

Enjoy! http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif http://damonbbradley.tripod.com/damonbradley/ (\"http://damonbbradley.tripod.com/damonbradley/\")
The demo is at the bottom of the webpage.

Hey, that sounds really good. The strings are spot on. Excellent work (again) Damon!

Very Cool, Damon.

This would be a great demo for potential GOS buyers. Although it\'s a fairly slow theme, the strings are really flying naked in the breeze and still sound quite convincing.

Thanks for listening guys http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif. Its such a great piece of music. I learned so much from this mockup of how strings can play against eachother to create tension and release.
Newmans best score by far IMHO.

Damon,

How do you do these reproductions? Do you reproduce by ear, buy the sheet music?

Thanks,
Joanne

Hey Joanne,
I can\'t read music at all. I have played by ear all my life. I just popped the Shawshank CD in the player last night and picked out each part by ear. This piece was a bit tricky in spots, but I somehow managed to get through it. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif
Doing these mockups is teaching me so much about orchestration. I find it a good thing to do when your own creativity gets stifled.

Hey there Damon,

Long time no talk! Well, what can I say; it seems you\'re getting damn good with the GOS library. Very impressive. One of the best adverts for GOS that I\'ve heard.

Well done again!!

Hey Chris,

Long time no talk indeed! Hope all is going well with Bruce Boa and the wife and kid http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif. Let me know what\'s going on.
Thanks for listening and the kind words Chris and Ricardo. It was an absolute pleasure to do this mockup of what I think is some great writing by Thomas Newman.
I used the 1st and 2nd violin grand detaches, 2nd violin SusV, viola grand detache, Celli Sordino, Bass Sus, and Celli SusV LEG. Brass is Dan Dean solo french horn (which I\'m beginning to love for its wide range of dynamics with the crossfade) and Miroslav French horns. Harp is the incredible Xsample concert harp.
I have to say those violin and viola grand detaches are soooo expressive and rich. I take them over the regular SusV\'s anyday unless for fast legato phrases. I really hope Gary and Tom can find a way to loop them or extend them in length in some way.
King told me he handed Gary forte grand detache loops at NAMM the other day, so hopefully we will have them http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif.

Thanks Joanne http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif. Maybe I\'ll get around to finishing the demo. There is about 30 more seconds of it where it gets dark, then comes back to the main theme with just the bass and celli.

I just listened to it again Damon. It just rminds me how much I love both the movie and the music.

Just a thought...I wish you guys would show off more of your own stuff...we all know what ET and Shawshank sound like, and now we know how well GOS can simulate those. You guys certainly have the talent...put it to better use. I\'d personally be much more interested in hearing that. Just my 2 cents, prolly worth 1 cent after taxes...

Regards,
Scott

Actually I think its a great reference for the samples to compare them to already recored work. And as well. Its quite helpful in underfstanding how to write for particular instruments. Especially here in this forum where the sound of the sample is the frame of mind to most people not the composition. which in fact is what takes second seat to most people, putting too much burden on the samples themselves. So why not start wiht an already good composition? http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif

I dont mind people sharing these types of things. Many of us do it to learn how to use he samples and learn to write, so sharing the experience is something I enjoy.
Also Damon has some of his own music at the same page os the Shawshank and ET demo.

Anyhow, if you haven\'t or want to hear some of the crap I\'ve done over the past few years check out

Hehe Scott, we do indeed make our own music. Just listen to the stuff we have at our homepages.

The E.T mockup was my first go at midi reorchestration by ear, ever. It was just done for kicks. And it was an interesting study of Williams\' music too.

I challenged the other guys on this forum to create GoS mockups coz I was eager to hear what it would sound with GoS. And that\'s the whole unfabricated story http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif Now why haven\'t we heard any music from you Scott? http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif Got anything to share?

Oh, and good sequencing work Damon!

Thomas

Thanks Thomas http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
Scott, I agree and disagree. I do need to spend more time on my own work, but the reason for doing these mockups was because lately my own creativity has been stifled and instead of just sitting around doing nothing I\'d rather learn what the composers are doing by picking out each part they write. It\'s really a great learning tool if you have a good ear.
Plus it\'s kind of fun to get it to sound as real as possible just for the hell of it, even though I think composition is more important then just trying to make everything sound real all the time.
King, some Meet Joe Black stuff would be nice. Some very pretty cues in that one. Looking forward to hearing it!

Oh, for those of you who don\'t know, I\'m just a 17 year old who happens to make orchestral music on my kurzweil K2500XS. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif If you\'re interested, I\'ve had a demo on the kurzweil orchestral rom demo site for awhile now. My score is entitled, \"Chase.\" (http://www.kurzweilmusicsystems.com/html/orchestral_rom_demos.html) Tell me what ya think, thanks.

Hey Damon,

Very nice indeed! Great job of showing off GOS, especially the low end (though it all sounds good).

Sounds great.

Let me add my voice to the chorus and say it\'s one of the best demos for GOS I\'ve heard yet.

Terrific piece of music too, of course.

Damon,

Thanks for your reply. I can\'t read either - do lots of original composing/orchestration, but could not reproduce others\' compositions if my life depended on it. I\'m impressed!
