Small survey:
In the light of the upcoming release of my new piano library (5.1 Gigabytes) I wonder how many users here can read DVD-rom\'s on their Giga-system. I found several people and studio\'s still have CD-ROM devices only.

Not on my Gst PC, but on a new PC for my son in my home network (6 PC\'s). Not yet considered a DVD player as upgrade for existing machines.

Not me (yet) but I\'m still running a 333MHz Pentium III, so I\'m due for an upgrade pretty sonn, and i will have then.
I\'d think you\'d want to release two versions (if that\'s not cost-prohibitive...) CDs are cheap, tho, compared to pressing DVD. Of course if you burn them yourself onesey/twoseys, it doesn\'t matter.

I looked into this and found that not many have a dvd player. Garritan offers his library on DVD. He could give you a ratio probably.

I have one in my home-studio but not my \"work studio\".
I know certain video games that come on multiple cds have a \"mail-in\" option that you can send in the cds and get one DVD. I imagine if you are doing this independently though, that could get very expensive.

Actually there is little difference in duplications costs between a DVD and 6 cd\'s.
I just find that there aren\'t too many Giga-users that have DVD\'s in their set-up.
I have several PC\'s and I had to build the DVD players in those systems myself. The only system that came with a DVD drive was a Gateway PC that I use at home.
I\'m thinking of having the cd\'s pressed and offering an option for a DVD-R.

I have a DVD in my machine. You can now purchase DVD-ROM\'s for as low as $70 so there is no excuse for new computers to not have DVD drives!
My GOS library came on 2 DVD\'s and it was a breeze to load. Took less than half the time of loading the CD\'s! I will buy DVD versions of any library available. Saves alot of room on my shelf!!

Keep in mind alot of Giga users do not like to mess with their system when it is finally up and running nicely. So, adding/installing a DVD driver/player will not be an option for many users.
p.s. If you\'re going to add copy protection software to your product please let us know ahead of time. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Bingo! Installing a DVD drive is very simple but never the less, as you say, people don\'t like messing with their system once its running without a problem.
This survey has been succesful in that respect. Also read Kip\'s point on the Imperial Bosendorfer. Once you have a DVD drive fine, if you don\'t have it you\'re not likely going to get one in the very near future (at least not before my next release!)
Copy protection! You can bet your hat on it I\'ll use copy protection and I will not share too many details on how, what, why and when. But I do agree it wise to inform potential customers about the fact it\'s there.

I don\'t have a DVD player, nor do I want to buy one. I don\'t see the need for one at all (except for Gigastudio and your humongeous sample libraries http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif - > There\'s no point in watching movies on a 17\" pc monitor and my gigacomps are in their own studio room without a large television set. I\'d rather see the upcoming libraries on CDs.
Counting through a few friends of mine I\'ve reached this number: 2 out of 15 guys have DVD-roms. The second guy has a DVD-rom that stopped working after a couple of months.
I\'m sticking with CD-ROMs for now. I hope the developers will do the same.

Yep, I have recently bought a system *with* DVD player of course.
I don\'t see the fun of inserting disc after disc after disc after disc after...

I am astonished! Don\'t you guys have a cd writer in your system and no more space to add something? I will only change once the dvd writable media gets cheap.

I added a 16x-speed DVD-ROM drive to my system in anticipation of getting GOS on 2 DVDs, instead of on 16 CDs. What a time saver!
My CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives are connected to an UltraDMA/66 PCI card so I could put the two hard drives on separate IDE channels. The card has little or no effect on the PCI bus when the drives (with \"Auto insert notification\" disabled) are idle. Consequently, my sound card (an Aardvark DirectPro LX6) has the bus pretty much all to itself.

Adding a DVD drive (or CD-ROM or CD-R for that matter) is very unlikely to influence your system in any way. Yes it may slow down HD access when the CD/DVD is in use and sits on the same IDE channel as a drive you\'re streaming Gig\'s off, but that\'s all there is to it.
