View Full Version : May I post some SONAR issues here?

I purchased Sonar 8 PE (64 version) and updated it to 8.3.1 (?) - the latest patch. When loading Sonar with an existing project I can't see the KP2 loader, it is just a blank square. It loads, yes, but nothing to see.
I noticed that PerfectSpace has more output now, so I have to re-adjust my reverb settings all over.
I also noticed that when using ASIO with my Audiophile 2496 - and that buggy betadriver for the 64 bits environment - SONAR falls over and stops. I have to do with WDM.
Is it true - because I forgot - that the base pitch is -2?
Next week I'll go for some hardware changes. A true 64 bits audio system.

Raymond, I'm not brave enough yet to venture into the 64 bit world, but sometimes when I insert a soft synth (VST) into Sonar the GUI doesn't show.
This may just be since I updated to the latest Sonar version.
What I have been doing is going to "view>synth rack" and once that pops up, I click on the icon for the KontaktPlayer or whatever and it then will show itself.
I think you can also just double click on the name of the VST when you expand a track in the track view, where it's name is in the "In" or "out".
Get those bugs worked out! John

Thanks Jon, The box had become unselected with the update, so thanks for your tip!

C0 in Sonar doesn't have to be C0 in MIDI. Midi standards aren't standard at all, some use C0 as the lowest note, others say that it is C-2.
I remember having this asked in the far past and got an answer, but I forgot which. It is set under Global Options-Bas Octave for pitches - down that window.

Jon, When you write
A "C0" in Sonar equates to a "C-2" in Kontakt. Both refer to MIDI Note "0". don't you mean the other way around?
That in Sonar, the note is found higher?
To use an example, when using a key-switched instrument in GPO like the Violins KS Combo, if we wanted to switch to pizzicato, we would insert the A1 keyswitch, that in Sonar would be found at A3. Is this correct?
Thanks, John

Thanks folks,
to avoid all math plus or minus 2 or whatever, I did a simple test.
I entered a note for a triangle, exported it, read it in Sonar and voila it is there while with a different octave setting it is not. Thus -2 (negative 2).

I'm glad the -2 topic was picked up, I honestly didn't know from your original short post, Raymond, what you were even referring to.
Now I see--Interesting. I've never really dealt with octave discrepancies in programs - I've just played what works on my keyboard and called it good!

Thanks, Jon - Ever helpful as always. MIDI note numbers indeed, when the need arises to deal with them. Great!

Thanks Jon, that explains a lot.
I could never figure out why keyswitches sometimes worked and sometimes didn't and never seemed to match the manual!
