Nick-
I just finished my first project using VOA. Granted, there is a learning curve with all new samples - some more than others. I spent about 4 hours assembling the choir samples into 30 seconds of semi-lyric\'d phrases. I feel I\'ve achieved some success, but I\'m still tweaking a few parts.
How have you been joining consonants and vowels? I\'ve had particular difficulty balancing instances of S and multiple consonants (i.e. gr, nt, etc). I understand that consonants generally sound less clearly than vowels. Can you offer some relative levels? How far forward do you pull the consonants for intelligibility? Do you just layer them on top of the vowel downbeats? That sounded too messy to me.
Overall, you\'ve done a great job! The sound quality is excellent with the exception of a few hi freq artifacts that are extremely easy to eq out. Even without the word assembly feature, the choirs are outstanding and, I think, complement my other choir libraries beautifully.
Admittedly, my first implementation of the library was very ambitious (30 secs, 19 words, in italian). In a time crunch situation, I could probably fall back on vowels and one or two consonants just for the effect - I\'ve had particular success with R. Now, if I could just get the S to sit right........
Thanks for your work and your help.

Thanks for the first impressions. Filtering out low end and adding verb to the consonants helps. The peak of the consonants varies so you have to slide them around a bit and tweak individual volumes. Generally, its better to place them slightly ahead of the downbeat. If you want to smear the consonants more, you can use 2 tracks and copy your consonant track to another track that uses a different keyswitch and offset its timing slightly. Also pay attention to the lengths of the consonants.

Francis-
I\'d be happy to e-mail you the file. Can you handle a six meg attachment? Or, what would you suggest I use to rip an MP3 (OS8.6)?

Me too, guy. You MIGHT want to think about posting it on a website somewhere, so you could post it once, and we could download without bothering you. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/cool.gif

no problem at all. I\'m happy to share knowledge with many other musicians I would not have the pleasure to talk with if internet was not here http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
anyway, if a password is asked please let me know by emailing me at: nickshadow@notme.com
I don\'t think a pass is needed but, who knows.

just noticed the folders were set \"private\".
now they are \"public\" so everyone can enter, upload and download freely.
I hope for the very best of that small listening lounge http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Perhaps I\'m just not getting it.
The \"help\" at yahoo says to click \"add files\" but I can\'t find it. I\'d love to upload this file for you guys, but I can\'t figure out how.
Also, anyone have a suggestion for a decent MP3 encoder for Mac?

quite easy:
In the browser window you should see three folders: CLICK on the one called: \"Gigasampler MP3 demos\".
Once inside, look for three buttons called \"MOVE\", \"COPY\" and \"DELETE\".
The \"Add file\" link is just above them (right of the page), next to \"Add folder\" link.
You can also use the \"ADD FILE\" link contained in the YELLOW BOX at the center of the page, where is this sentence: \"This folder is currently empty.
Add file(s) to this folder. \"
Hope to have been of some help, contact me if u have any other problem.

Clef-
Perhaps I don\'t have the same access to the page that you do, but I don\'t see any of the copy, move, delete links at all. I e-mailed the file to several people who requested it. If I e-mail it to you, maybe you could post it for me.

sure: email it to
nickshadow@libero.it
I will take care of uploading the demo into my free space.
consider compressing the mp3 into zip in order to be able to split it, just to avoid being rejected by my emailbox
however, I will take care of providing you a password to enter my free space and soon I will provide any other forum member a fast free ftp service for mp3 custom demos (copyright free)
stay tuned..

Finally I found a place where you can upload your copyright-free library demo and let it be downloaded by everyone interested.
Visit www.albertorizzoschettino.com/uploads.html (\"http://www.albertorizzoschettino.com/uploads.html\")
It\'s a friend of mine website. I suggested this one and he wanted to give it a try.
the service will be discontinued if it\'s not used.
I hope this one to be useful, I noticed that many people were posting their email (dangerously) on any forum asking for someone else to send him his custom demo via email. It\'s not so confortable: a demo to be sent to 50 users, an email with size limit could not accept it or make it to return to the sender and many other problems.
I think this idea could be great, let\'s see how much it\'s used. Official demos can be deceiving, many people are looking for something else to listen to a library carefully before buying it. Sadly, mp3 demos are the only way to test a library! Custom demos can be better, many times they saved my pocket! http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
Let him know about this by signing his guestbook or emailing him, suggestions are welcome I guess.

Has this been uploaded anywhere? I\'d like to hear some VotA stuff, but six megs is way too much for my email to handle.

Lance: I provided a web site address to handle this type of situations. It\'s fast and reliable using ftp transfer.
Once the file is uploaded you can easily get it using the site\'s library, streaming from his server is also avaiable.
Unfortunately, noone with that demo uploaded it yet .. I tried to be as much as disposable I could, now it\'s up to someone to do the upload job.

I would be happy to post the file, but nobody has responded to my request for suggestions on MP3 endocders for Mac OS8.6. If someone could direct me to an encoder, I\'ll be happy to rip and post it.

I would recommend MVP:
http://software.mp3.com/software/individual/2456.html (\"http://software.mp3.com/software/individual/2456.html\")
you can create MOV, MP3 and MP2.
a good encoder/player.
