Greetings! When I was young, if that is a conceivable proposition, I studied cornet using the Arban book. Not to many years ago, (1982?) it was still in print. But now that I want a copy for a teen age relative,to whom I will be giving one of my brass instruments, it seems to have gone out of print. Is it now an antique, replaced by a more favored method? I would be grateful for all comments.

I also was trained on the Arban book. I just bought one about two years ago for my daughter. I got it through a local music store in the Chicago area -Quinlan and Fabish. I hope it's not out of print! Generations of trumpet players were raised on it!

Here it is on Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Conservatory-Trumpet-Baritone-Euphonium/dp/0825803853/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1239513374&sr=8-1

about 24 bucks! Good luck!

I highly recommend springing for the "Complete Conservatory method".

I teach trumpet privately and still use the trusty and true Arban Complete Conservatory method. It is still in print and being sold at a whopping $30.00 retail. (It used to be called the 5-50 for it was always $5.50. Ah, the good old days. I'm not at my studio, so I can't tell you the publisher. I don't recall it off hand. The Amazon suggestion is a good one, but S&H may push it up a bit in price. There are other methods out there which have been contemporized, but I still like the Arban Method.

Best of luck and I'll get you the publisher's name when I can.

Yeah, I haven't been on in awhile. Hickey's has the Carl Fischer edition for about $30, among other editions. I have the trombone/baritone version, and I got it last year. Hope this helps.
