Here is a list of reputedly the 10 most played songs (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7996979.stm) in the UK.

Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale is the most played song in public places in the past 75 years, according to a chart compiled for BBC Radio 2.
The top-10 list:

Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade Of Pale
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Everly Brothers - All I Have To Do Is Dream
Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around
Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
Robbie Williams - Angels
Elvis Presley - All Shook Up
Abba - Dancing Queen
Perry Como - Magic Moments
Bing Crosby - White Christmas

I would never have guessed Dancing Queen would be in the top ten. *()

I guess they mean on the radio because 'Happy Birthday' isn't on the list. No Beatles tunes either.

Well...

We will have to check back in 75 years and see if Stone Temple Pilots or Pearl Jam is on the list.

...Oh, and I'm surprised no Amazing Grace, it seems to get a lot of play.

Notice that this is in PUBLIC places, like shops and malls.

I'm surprised because at Christmas that B awful song by Slade is played everywhere you go from beginning of November, thats at least 30 years now and its stll awful, and its all you hear for 2 months.

Cant say I recall Whiter Shade for a long time, Oh I see its the last 75 years, well that lets me out somewhat. (well a bit, a little bit)
