My youngest brother and I were discussing early electronic instruments today and our thoughts eventually turned to the Theremin. I found this browsing on youtube and thought the forum might enjoy the performance:

Hard to believe, but the Theremin turns 89 this year (it was invented in Russia in 1920 and patented in the US eight years later). Leon Theremin's invention is among the very first of the purely electronic instruments and is still considered one of the most expressive. I find there's something inherently appealing about an instrument that one plays without ever touching it. :) Fine muscle control, a very good ear, lots of practice, and maybe you, too, could become a Theremin virtuoso! ;)

That is a great Theremin performance.

And Dr. Robert Moog, who built a lot of theremins, would have celebrated his 75th birthday last week. Dr. Moog passed away three years ago.

Beautiful. The ethereial "Claire de Lune" lends itself nicely to the Theremin. This was very enjoyable and thanks for posting it.

Best,
