THANKYOU NICK
I WANT THIS LIBRARY AND I WANT TO BUY IT RIGHT HERE AND NOW.
Is this possible? Has it been released? I could use these sounds on THIS weeks episode of Angel that I am working on, and I\'m sure several upcoming episodes too.
Congratulations Nick, its fantastic!!
What sold me is the second example within this final demo, and the last example. It sounds like they\'re singing words! Sure I can\'t tell what the words might be, and I don\'t want to: it\'s that classic epic choir sound of them singing in Latin, like in \"the Omen\" for example. Very useful and no I haven\'t done this effectively with other choir libraries.
Um, what brass, strings and percussion did you use in that second example (the big staccatto example).
This library is a winner, thank you Nick!
Thanks!
Robert Kral.

Nick,
Thank you for sending, Vota.mp3.
I must tell you that the voices heard @ 1:55
and again @ 2:20 are truly inspiring.
You have captured a warm yet airy (Hollywood)
choir and I cannot thank you enough for doing so!
If anyone here has heard Michael Kamen\'s Band of Brothers - Main Theme - The choir section I have mentioned above are very
close to that sound. With the right EQ and Reverb, it can come true.
Thanks again, Nick.
I will phone in my order Monday 9:00 AM.

Nick, thank you for sending the demo. I know what I\'m asking for from Santa this year!
Would you mind posting a little description of the making of the demo. For example, \"the first part is the angel choir with Waves small hall reverb, etc, etc.\" It might be quite helpful to know how you created the sound of each section, or if you have any special tips on the best way to work with the samples.
Thank you for your hard work.
Doug

There is no additional reverb used on the choir in the demos, except on the consonants to help blending. You are hearing release samples of the hall. I added a touch of low end boost to the choir in the demos and thats about it. The first cue is the angels. The second cue is the sustained mens and womens choirs, no stacatto samples, just sustains with fast attacks + consonants and also some shouts and clusters in the middle. The third cue is combos of angels and the mens and womens choirs with strings in the background and mens and womens mmmms at the end.
The final cue is the sustained men and women with consonants. I didn\'t program any slow attack options into the library ( except on the Angels aahs because the mod wheel was available). If you want that sort of thing, you can do it to the whole library in a couple minutes. I provide natural (fairly quick) attacks and slightly faster attacks only on the vowels. As I explore, I will probably provide some articulation files on East west\'s site.

Hey Nick,
You forgot to thank everyone for all the kind words. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
Second,
I too would find it very useful to gain an understanding of how we (your customers) will
achieve the singing effect with your choir.
I don\'t believe what was asked of you
was to give away trade secrets but merely a how to...
Thanks

KEYSWITCH C1 gives you natural attacks. KEYSWITCH C#1 gives you a slightly faster attack.
Is there a simple method for the user to create a slow attack via KEYSWITCH D1 ?
I have no clue how but I was just wondering if it can be done.

Thank you Nick for your description of demo. It will be very helpful when I finally get to work with the library myself.

Ok, now what we need is a little program that will take phonetically-spelled text, and do all that for you automatically!

I looked into that. But, its tricky. Any programmers out there up for a challenge???

VOTA sounds great - I especially liked the Carmina Burana-esq section of the demo.
A quick question though.
Although I use Giga as my main sample rig, I now find myself using Halion for quite a bit of work. Will you be doing a Halion version of VOTA? or have you tried importing it into Halion? I just wondered, because with ver 1.1 the Megatrigg should be able to cope with the keyswitching, and on occasion it would be useful to plug samples like VOTA straight in to the Cubase mixing desk.
I\'d be interested to hear your thoughts NIck.
Cheers

I am looking into Halion and ESX 24. Frankly, I was hoping that Halion would convert my libraries so I can simply concentarte on new ones. One thing I forgot to mention is polyphony. like some of the newer libraries, VotA uses alot of voices (polyphony). Every time you play a vowel note it uses 4 voices instead of 2. When you release the note, it uses 4 more for 3 seconds. I only have one gigastudio, so I recorded the choir to disk, before I added the bulk of the orchestra. Time to buy another gigastudio.

Thanks for the reply Nick.
Does anyone on this forum also use Halion?
If they do, perhaps someone wouldn\'t mind starting a thread which lets us all know what Gig files they have reun in Halion and if they need any alterations once they are ported over.
Cheers

Francis,
Yes, thanks for all the kind words!! I found that the best way to make these samples actually sing lyrics, is to first record the melody on any vowel track. Then load up all the vowel patches you will need and put them on seperate tracks. Copy the melody onto all the vowel tracks, and erase all notes on each track, except the ones that will sing that vowel at the appropriate time. Use the mod wheel for expression and remember that some vowels will be much softer than others in a realistic phrase. Don’t forget that the vowel sound EE is often used to represent the letter Y, the vowel sound AAY is made by using EH followed by EE and the vowel sound I is made by using AH folowed by EE. Now load up the consonants and play them at the appropriate time. There are 4 versions of each, so complete your consanant track and then audition it using the 4 different key-switches.. I tend to filter out some low end on the consanants and add a little verb. Certain consanants stick out more in a mix than others, so it is best to keep the consanant track loud and reduce the velocities of the dominant ones (such as \"S\"). Sometimes it is best to only trigger a consanant for a short time. After you do the consanant/ vowel thing once, it gets much easier.

Nick. Listening to the demo again. The words sound great. I definitely would adjust attacks on my end for some areas. So I can glissando into notes.
What about ofering MIDI files of just words in qtr notes that can be edited to pitch/tempo via MIDI? It might give alot of people starting points.
Are there lite versions of the \"instruments\" without release triggers? I\'m going to be eating poly like crazy.... Its gonna have to be one gigastudio for each section!!
Strings with GOS (2 studios if I want to use full vesions and lots of layers)
Brass with you and DD (2 again for full versions)
Woods DD and the others (again...2 for full versions of the instruments.
Voices/choir This and SOV/ECC
and percussion when London Perc comes out as well as drums and stuff
thats 8 giga studios.....
JEEZ!!!.....
well its cheaper than an rehiring an orchestra and choir over and over again...
but man...I love the fact that it can be done!! Better than having 40 samplers http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
