Hi. My H.N is Veron.I`m Japanese.
I`m looking for a good Strings Library that
I can load in my XV-5080(Roland).
By the way I`m sorry but I dont have a
Giga Sampler.So I was looking for a
good Strings Library that is in
Akai S1000,S3000 format or in Roland S-760
format. I`d like a sound like Hans Zimmer,
Trevor Rabin,Mark Mancina,Harry Gregson Williams.
I know some few Sample Libraries like
Kirk Hunters Virtuoso Strings,Advanced
Orchestra,Ultimate Strings,
Roland L-CDX Series,X-samples,Vitous.
But I dont know what to buy. I`ve looked
at the past topics that were posted but
I could`nt find the information that I wanted so I posted a new topic.
I really appreciate it if someone
could help me.
I`m sorry if my english is bad.
I would look into Kirk Hunter\'s Strings. They sound very realistic, very close to the \"hollywood\" sounds. I have Advanced Orchestra too, but it\'s not as good as Kirk unter\'s strings.
Miroslav Vitous\' Strings is maybe a little better than Kirk Hunter\'s, but a lot more expensive too.
In regarding to prices, I would say you get more for your money with Kirk Hunter\'s...
You get Solo Strings as well with Kirk Hunter\'s. Miroslav Vitous\' Strings, is just string sections.
Miroslav Vitous\' Solo Strings is splitted onto the 2 Solo CD\'s.
I don\'t have Ultimate Strings. So I can\'t comment on them.
Hope this helps a little...

Thank you for the reply, Mr.Ewen.
I copied and saved your comment to my
file.I save comments that are very helpful
and read them back again. Its like taking a
note in a class at school.
And about the Kirk Hunter Library,
I think its good too.But its very
expensive in japan. Its about $1200 in
US Dollar. If I`m going to buy it ,
I think I`ll look on the internet to
find a store in America or some place that
will send it to japan.
I really apperciate your reply.
Thank you very much!!

I posted a big long reply about Garritan Orchestral Strings being the best string library out right now, but then I realized you said akai format and it\'s not available in that right now. So I just disregarded it.
Ultimate Strings in akai format might be good for you. It has great pizzicatos and a beautiful \"violas expressive\" patch.
It does require some editing and tweaking (some of the strings are a tad bit out of tune if I recall correctly).
Soundonline is selling Advanced Orchestra strings for $224.00 (no, not the entire library, just the string ensembles), but I don\'t care for the string sounds very much there. The \"soft sustains\" patch however works nice underneath other string sounds to thicken up a track.
I\'d say if you\'re really serious about wanting to write for strings, save up your money and get Garritan orchestral Strings once the library becomes available in akai format. It is by far the most comprehensive and fascinating string library available. You won\'t be sorry http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif. (www.gigastrings.com)
Cheers!

I can share my experience. I bought Advanced Orchestra Strings and was very disappointed in the sound. They sound harsh, the exception being the soft sustained strings. The solo strings are also OK. My ears may be old, but I think I hear aliasing in there too. So I saved my pennies and ordered Garritan Orchestral Strings yesterday, obviously I haven\'t heard them.
BTW for those interested in GOS, but haven\'t taken the plunge, Gary told me there\'s maybe just a couple of weeks left on the introductory price. If it\'s as good as everyone says, sell your TV if you need to. I really hope GOS is that good.

Thankyou for the reply,Mr.Damon.
I went to the Garritan Orchestral Strings
Web Site and downloaded all the
Demos.I listen to it and I thought
WOW!This is great!!! It really sounds
like a real orchestra.I think I`ll save
up my money and wait.
And I wish the company will sell it in a
Introductory Price for the Akai version,
when the Akai Version comes out.
Thankyou very much for your reply.
I appreciate it alot!!

Thank you for the reply,Mr.Patonality.
I heard the Demo and it was great.
I never heard a Strings Section this
real.
And about the Introductory Price,
they only have it for the Giga Sampler
now, so I dont know if I could buy it
for $999.I hope they would sell it in a
Introductory Price when it comes out on
Akai format.
Thank you very much for your
reply, Mr.Patonality.

As far as I know, there isn\'t going to be an Akai version. GOS is specifically designed to take advantage of the Gigastudio software. The Akai version, if there is one, would be pretty limited as to what you can do when compared to the giga version.

Scott

Vernon,
I recently emailed Gary Garritan and he said the Akai version of GOS will be available in a month or so. He explained it will be a \"lighter version\" with looped material. It will also cost less than $999.00
Hope this helps,
Kevin

The reality of the situation is that no hardware sampler can compete with GigaStudio, so any library designed for GigaStudio is going to drop in quality when it is converted to other formats. If you want the full quality of a GigaStudio library you need to get GigaStudio.
[This message has been edited by Jamieh (edited 09-29-2001).]
If you were prepared to pay $1200 for the Kirk Hunter, why not buy Gigastudio plus GOS? You can get both for around $1300. The dollar is pretty weak right now as well, so that\'s in your favor.
If you really want the best possible string sound then giga is the way to go. I\'ve heard the GOS demos and I haven\'t heard a single criticism (apart from a couple of crazy accustaions that it was \'real\' - which is really a compliment).
Plus you get the best bloody sampler in the world.

Thankyou for your reply (Mr or Ms.)Jamieh.
I really wondering what to buy now (^^;;
The quality may drop so I dont know if
I can trust the mp3 demo at the Official
Website...
>If you want the full quality of a

>GigaStudio.
The reason I cant get Giga Studio is because
I dont have a computer that runs Windows.
I`m using a Machintosh(OS9).
And if you buy a Windows Computer in
Japan,it will cost me alot.
And a friend said that if I want to
use a Giga sampler I have to buy
a Computer for only the Gigasampler to
run.Because if you run the sequencer and
Giga sampler on the same computer,
the performace may drop for both.
A friend told me this incase Gigasampler
came out on Machintosh and I were to buy
it.
Thank you for your reply,
Mr. or Ms. Jamieh.I really appreciate it.

I wrote the reason above in a reply to
Mr. or Ms. Jamieh. The reason is
I don`t have a Windows running computer.
And my friend said,if I want to buy
GigaSampler I should Build a custom
computer just for the Giga sampler if I
wanted the performance good.Even if the GigaSampler comes out on Mac Platform
I need to buy an another computer to
have fine performance.Because I`m
HDRecording with my sequencer.
And I dont have the money to buy an
another computer. So I thought it maybe good
to buy a \"Hanzimmer like Strings Library\" in Akai format or Roland foramt. So I can load it in my XV-5080.

I`m really troubled with this String Library thing.It came in my dream last night...(^^;;
Thankyou for your reply Mr.Z6.

That isn\'t really true. I have a 1GHz Machine that I run both GigaStudio and Cakewalk (sequencer) on at the same time and I have no trouble with it. I had 512MB RAM and it ran perfectly (I have more now).
Plus I have the machine set up to dual boot, so I have one boot that I use for all applications and a separate boot that I use only for GigaStudio. That keeps the GigaStudio boot completely clean. I used a program called Partition Magic to get that to work. Only cost about $60 and works great. I will warn you that it takes some screwing around with the inside of your machine to get GigaStudio running well, so if you aren\'t computer literate you might want to consider getting a shop that knows how to get machines set up for GigaStudio to help you.
BTW, I am a Mr.

Mr.Jamieh
Thankyou for your responce.
It looks like GigaSampler and the
Sequencer is running with no problem
on the same computer.
By the way I`m using Digital Performer(Sequencer). And its only out for Machintosh.
So anyway,I need to buy another computer
for Giga Sampler....I know it costs cheeper
than buying a new Hardware sampler.
But I dont have that much money...
It looks like I have chioce to buy,
GigaStrings(akai version) or Virtuoso or
Advanced Orchestra or Ultimate Strings or
Rolands L-CDX Strings and Percussions.
By the way I`ve looked at ilio`s website
and looked at the information of Virtuoso.
And it has EmuEOS,Roland,Akai,Kurzweil format. Is there any quality diffrences
between these 4 diffrent formats?
Because I saw the \"Directory Lists\" for
all 4 foramts on the ilio website.
And the Directory Lists were diffrent.
And one more thing.I think everybody here
doesn`t know about the new expantion board
SRX-04....I searched the word in this forum , but only my post came out.
Thankyou for your Responce,Mr.Jamieh.
I really appreciate it!

I played with the String SRX board the other day...but since I\'ve been spoiled with giga strings, the SRX board just didn\'t \"do it\" for me. However they do sound really good. Still the best strings for me have been GOS with gigasampler. I would think that when its converted to another format it will loose some of waht makes it amazing. It was designed for gigaStudio not a samoppler with limited RAM. I\'m sure that with looping and creative programming it can still be amazing...it will still sound great thats for sure....but In My opinion its best on gigaStudio platform.

When I listened to the SRX-04 Expantion Board, I thought it sounded very thick
and realistic. But it didn`t have the
sound like \"Many many people are playing
the Violin\" thing.
But I thought Garrtian Strings has
this kind of sound. The big Strings Section.
Like the hollywood sound.For example,
like Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson Williams,
Alan Silvestri and so on.

Veron,
I have the Kirk Hunter strings in Roland format, and they are really good.. However, I suspect that now that they are out in gigasampler format, they will really sound huge. You can listen to a few demos at www.kirkhunterstudios.com (\"http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com\")
