Hi Everyone,
Let's start the list for Christmas 2010.
I have no idea what I am going to do yet.
Please Please Please do not claim a song if you are not going to complete it in time. A number of people probably were not able to send in a song because someone grabbed it and then didn't pull through. We all understand deadlines, but please start on your song now, you have a little over nine months to "git er done"! :)
Thanks to everyone for making their music for this recent 2009 Garritan Christmas CD!
Dan

YAaaaah - I got my wish! Actually, my bride's wish. It was her idea for me to do "O Holy Night" for the 2009 CD, and she's asked me to do "Bethlehem" for this coming Christmas. Her wish is my command. You know how marriage works. :)
I started my project way early last year, and will again this year. I found it great fun to work with Christmas music in the spring, in the summer, in the fall. It's a good way of keeping the Christmas spirit alive all year.

Hi everyone,
I will contribute with an old french carol - "Entre le boeuf et l'âne gris".
As advised, I am starting it right now. Quite easy, as I broke my ankle, I have to stay home and nothing else to do than read and make some music till the end of january.
Cheers,

Hello Dan,
I would like to offer an original song for this year's Christmas CD. The title of my song is: 'Gifts For The country King'.
My song is well on the way and will be ready in good time for the deadline.
I tried sending you a PM but your 'In Box' is full so my message wouldn't send. I also tried emailing you but am not sure if you received my emails.
I hope everything is OK. :)

Really glad to see this thread bobbing back to the surface. My submission for the upcoming album was started early this year. It's been nice to re-visit it once in awhile, see how I feel about work I've done each time I open it up again. I think the last version I mixed is The One - I'll check it a few more times, then get it out to you, Dan.

Last time this thread floated up, I told you I'd be getting my submission to you soon. Then life intervened, you know how it does that sometimes, and I couldn't devote the time I wanted. I Do have a mastered "finished" track - Just want to give it several more critical listen-throughs before sending. There's some text I need to compose and send along with it also - Not to be too mysterious, --you'll see what I mean when I get it out probably within the week.

And CJPro - I think you understand that these Garritan Christmas CD tracks need to be 100% Garritan instruments.
Here's to another great collection- It's been such an especially nice thing every year. Good, CJ. I thought maybe you weren't "quite well aware of that" since you didn't know that the time limit on Christmas CD tracks has always been between 3 and 4 minutes. It slipped my mind that you've had tracks on previous collections. Maybe you can make a version of "Celebration" which is half the length so it can fit the requirements.
How's everyone else doing with their projects?

It's fine. I didn't know of the time limit because a few other projects I've done recently had time limits of 10 minutes, others had minimums of 5 minutes, and etc. I just simply lost track of which had which time limit. :D
I might do a shortened version of Celebration of Life tomorrow as a warm-up for another project of mine tomorrow.

Ah yes, I understand how it is to be so busy as to not keep trivial details straight. But that would be just too, too wonderful if you could toss of a track for Gary's CD as a warm up for that other little project of yours. T'would be too, too kind of you, CJ, and such an impressive display of dedication. ;)

Here's a quick recording. I had to transfer the entire score to Pro Tools as Sibelius 6 just doesn't let me get the sound I want that easily. I still have to go through and do some clean-up, especially with the mixing. But here it is, 3 minutes and 55 seconds of GPO, JABB, and CoMB!

I'll probably get a start on mine soon, but I've been putting it off in hope that the GWL will be released soon. I would love to be able to use some of those instruments for the arrangement I have in mind.
Also, I know this is supposed to be all Garritan (for obvious reasons), but I was wondering if I could use the Celesta from my other library since the version of GPO I have doesn't have one? I just wanted to check to make sure it would be ok to do this before just going ahead and doing it.

That would be awesome! I've always been somewhat surprised that the Finale version of GPO doesn't have a celesta, but has something as obscure as a harpsichord. It tends to be a bit of a pain when doing 100% garritan projects like this.
I'll probably have the track done sometime near the end of October.
Thanks so much for helping out!

Go here - http://www.personalorchestra.com/ and click the "Demos" tab. You'll see a page for the Christmas 2009 album, and another tab for previous holiday CDs.
That's what happens - So far there have been 6 years of Christmas albums with up to 21 tracks on each of them. All tracks feature Garritan instruments, produced by Garritan users.
You can understand the concern for the fate of this year's collection since less than half of the promised projects have been sent in yet. Hope everyone comes through!

..... the Finale version of GPO doesn't have a celesta, but has something as obscure as a harpsichord.
Huh .... Apart from the numerous harpsichord concertos and sonatas, the harpsichord is the major continuo instrument during the Baroque and early Classical and, is currently featuring renewed interest.
How many celeste concertos and sonatas can you name and how many works feature the celeste as an important feature of performance throughout the whole work?
Please don't misunderstand me. I too like the celeste and have used it myself for some of my own Christmas tracks but to say that the harpsichord is obscure is simply untrue.
I have Finale 2011 and the Finale set of Garritan instruments, whilst being great and incredibly useful, is really a 'pocket' taster of the full product. I would thoroughly recommend the full set of GPO4.

RandyHello Randy,
Thank you for saying this. I have been thinking this for a couple of weeks now.
It would be such a shame if there is no Christmas CD 2010. This feature of Gary's is such a joy and a beautiful thing.
I do hope those who have promised a track manage to send them in.

I'm mixing "We Three Kings" now and hope to 'ship her out' next week!
It's been hectic, but I can see where a status update now and then would be a good idea to keep the "Will-The-Songs-Get-Done?" butterflies at bay :)
Can't wait to hear everyone's 2010 contributions!

Ah... Thanks, I understand now. Pretty cool!
Just one question though... Where can I find the GPO choir preset that Dan uses? It sounds so realistic, as though people are actually singing lyrics. http://northernsounds.com/forum/images/icons/icon6.gif

I believe that Dan used his church choir to sing on that track! hence--great realism! 8-)

I'm sorry I was so late returning to the forum this year. I made an arrangement of several Christmas pieces that don't have any singing in them (I'm not very good with voices) in 1994 that I would love to contribute to a Christmas album, but alas, it is far too late for me to get started on that project for this year. I will keep it in mind for next year, especially after I have worked much harder for a while with my new setup that includes the latest versions of GPO4, Finale 2011 and SONAR 8.5 Studio.
I am looking forward to hearing this year's album, though. Sounds like a wonderful project to participate in, and I apologize again for not keeping up with things on the forum in recent years.

It may not be in yet, but [the new less-than-4-minutes long] Adeste Fideles is almost finished! (I just need to make the sure the fugue-thing-doohicky is correctly attached to the ear splitting coda which features [too many] brass and percussion instruments and the amazingly wonderful full organ + the pedal stops;)...) I do still plan on sharing the original 10-minute Adagio I was going to submit.

Even though there were fewer songs taken this year,
there is a much higher percentage of tunes actually being sent in.
I suspect we will end up with about 16 songs.

Dan,
I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish my song for the CD. My cousin just committed suicide, so things are a little crazy right now. Not sure if I have it in me to compose/arrange anything right now.
Please pray for his family. He was only 18.

Thanks Gary, much appreciated. :)
Considering I did not know him all that well (we saw each other maybe once a year at best) I was quite surprised at how hard the shock of his death hit me. Thankfully, the worst of the shock has worn off, and I may yet still be able to finish my arrangement. Please continue to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. The worst of it has only just started for them.

Hi Gary, Dan and everyone,
I'm so sorry to say I just won't be able to make the deadline this year. Bad time management on my part but, I hope to offer something for next year.
I wish you all a very Merry Holiday season and I certainly anticipate hearing this years music.
All the Best,

Even if I don't get an entry in for this year, I'll probably cook up a little something to share a little closer to Christmass. I definitely intend on having one for next year. I honestly thought that I was going to be able to get it done this week, no matter what life threw at me. Go figure when ever you're ready for what ever life is going to throw at you, life plays dirty. Oh well... I'll definitely have more than enough time to do something over winter break. (probably *hopefully* will have the GWL by then! :D)

it has too many sounds that are not Garritan and therefore does not qualify.
I think it is a nice recording though... and thanks for offering it.

Hi Dan,
I sent as usual with my Alice Giga mail service the master of my song.
I announced it with a couple of e-mails but the first bounced back as rejected by mail server I don't know why, the second, sent with "send email" function of the forum didn't get any answer.
By the way it's several days that sending an IM to you is impossible because your box is full.
I'm wondering if you received my messages, and mainly the download directory I'm monitoring succesfully transmitted now.
Thanks for an answer, best regards
Fabio
