Nick,

I was about to purchase another strat sample library, but I saw your post about this coming out perhaps in November. Could you PLEASE take the time to tell us what samples you will have in this library? I\'m hoping for some leads, chords, strums, etc. It would be awesome if you threw in some distorted versions as well. Please give us some details about this project. Thanks!

This is the blurb about the library. It\'s completely done but I am having some hassles with the graphics. I think its going to be $299.

Quantum Leap \'56 Stratocaster. 2.4 gigs. 4 cds. Introducing a next generation sample library that captures the pure tone of a \'56 strat played through a Super Twin Reverb amp. 3000 chromatic samples were taken using multiple pickup settings (bridge, neck and notch) and multiple picking styles at 4 different dynamics. This innovative library features groundbreaking new sampling methods. Features include: realistic chord strumming and chugging, pitchless strum and chugging patches, attitude and pick angle control, true legato notes for flowing leads, gracenotes, slides, harmonics, mutes, pops, vibrato, non vibrato, power chords and FX. Add a few plugins and you are ready for anything!

Wow, this does sound very nice. When do you expect it to go on sale? I really don\'t need the fancy graphics! http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Hi Nick,

Can you please update us on when this library should be available? I am really keeping my fingers crossed on this one. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Nick,

How effective have you found the Revalver modeller? Does it allow you to achieve a range of well imitated amp sounds when using only the clean strat sound as a source?

I\'ve used it, yes it does. The problem is that you can\'t plug it directly into GigaStudio yet, and the real mojo comes from hearing it in realtime while you play. Hopefully Michael will finish the Giga version soon, I e-mailed him but have not yet heard back.

Some of the stuff on Rare will be great played through Revalver, too.

>I\'ve used it, yes it does. The problem...<

Isn\'t it also a problem to send an \"already send through an amp\" guitar through an additional amp or amp simulation? You very likely can\'T catch orginal tones this way... can you?

Original Tones? No, but it can still sound good.

I\'ve been working on samplign my guitar lately with two variations. A direct sound, and a send through the pod. I\'m trying different techniques and may actually jsu do teh direct first and then the distorted one with SEPERATE played samples.
Its a tough gig guys. I\'ve been wanting to make a very expressive 7-string guitar/Rock guitar sample set mostly for myself and mostly rhythm guitar playing techniques that I was hoping to share with everyone.

I\'ve been doing all sorts of work lately so It wont happen soon, but I wanted to tell everyone that doing something like this s VERY tough, and I\'ve found a new respect for guitar/bass sample developers. Geting an \"evenness\" in the attacks and tone is a very difficult thing to do, and not to mention ITS TEDIOUS to sample full decays

Its proving to be a \"task\" and am looking forward to QLB 56\' strat sut to have a huge guitar library at access fr writing songs with.

My current electric guitar setup is \"amped\" twice. I run the guitar through a Rocktron Piranha (which is meant to go straight to a power amp, I\'d liken it to a Mesa Boogie Triaxis, but about $600 cheaper (I\'ve owned both) ) then through a Line 6 POD, Rectifier setting. It gives me an extremely heavy sound, but it\'s still clear. Running the guitar through one or the other gives a thinner sound than I\'d prefer. (This is the sound I plan on sampling, for people that want to compose heavy music.)

Hey Nick, how\'s it coming with those graphics? I\'ve got a project coming up in the next couple of weeks that I could really use this library on... Catchy graphics are nice, but I\'ll be honest with you: Once I load the files on my computer, the sample CD goes in a box which is then tucked away behind my rack. It\'s hard to see those graphics from there!

Hi Nick,

As it is finally getting closer to the release date of this product I am hoping you will answer a few more questions about it.

1) What chords did you sample? (major,minor, etc..) And how do you access the different chord structures? keyswitch, multiple patches, one big patch, etc?

2) Please describe the lead patches in detail.

3) For rock music you need a good rythm strum, chugging sound. Muted bar chords, etc. Did you provide samples for rock rythm structures?

4) You mentioned before, a plug in would be needed to distort the samples, are you providing any distorted samples, if so what are they?

5) I currently own QL Guitar And Bass, Han Zimmer Vol 1, all of the Sonic Implants guitar libraries. How does this library compare to those and what advantages will this library have over them?

6) Do you have any demos available yet?

7) Where exactly is your website so I can learn more about this product and your others?

Thank you for taking the time to produce this library, this is an area that is lacking greatly on the Giga platform.

Here is some info from the booklet. There are no chords ( besides power chords) and no distorted samples (except for a couple distorted power chord patches from QL guitar and bass, which I threw in as a bonus/demo) You can effectively play your own chords with this library!

GIG FILES
QL’56 Strat Bridge.gig 1.2 Gigs

0 b Mute/Pop C1-C#1
C1 -> 3 Velocity Super Short Mute/Chug
1 Velocity Super Short Pop
C#1 -> 3 Velocity Short Mute/Chug
1 Velocity Short Pop

TIP: This is great for playing chugging rhythm parts.

1 b Mellow Strummer
4 Velocity Angled Pick Sustain

INFO: These notes were played with the pick angled to emulate
the sound of strumming.

2 b Big Strummer
7 Velocity Angled Pick + Picked Sustain

INFO: This patch uses the 4 velocities from Mellow Strummer and adds 3 harder velocities. The loudest velocity was obtained by muting all the unused strings and hitting the note hard at an angle, as if strumming hard. Because there are 7 velocities, you may not always get what you want immediately. Tweaking them will give you great results.
3 b Lead C1-G1
C1 -> 4 Velocity Sustain Non-vibrato
C#1 -> 2 Velocity Sustain Legato
D1 -> 4 Velocity Sustain Vibrato
D#1 -> 2 Velocity Harmonics
E1 -> 4 Speeds/Velocity 1/2 Step Slide Up
F1 -> 4 Speeds/Velocity Full Step Slide Up
F#1 -> 4 Speeds/Velocity 1/2 Step Slide Down
G1 -> 3 Velocity Staccato +
1 Velocity Pop

INFO: This is the big bridge lead patch.

4 b Surf/Spy C1-C#1
C1 -> 2 Velocity Sustain NV Downstroke
C#1 -> 2 Velocity Sustain NV Upstroke

INFO: Sustains picked close to the bridge for that 60’s sound.

5 b Strum Elements/Noises

INFO: Noises mapped simply across the keys.

6 b Strum/Chug Layer Low

INFO: 16 Way Velocity Switching Pitchless Strum/Chug Patch
for Layering With Rhythm Parts. Copy rhythm parts to this track and make sure there is only one note playing at a time.
It doesn’t matter what the note is, because this patch is pitch-
less.
7 b Strum/Chug Layer High

INFO: 16 Way Velocity Switching Pitchless Strum/Chug Patch
For Layering With Lead Parts

8 b Power Chords/Chugs C1-D#1
C1 -> 2 Velocity Short Power Chords Downstroke
C#1 -> 2 Velocity Short Power Chords Upstroke
D1 -> 2 Velocity Long Power Chords
D#1 -> 2 Velocity Big Power Chords

INFO: 5ths with a relatively clean sound.

9 b Rise and Fall C1-D#1
C1 -> Short Falls
C#1 -> Long Falls
D1 -> Short Gliss
D#1 -> Long Gliss

TIP: These really belong in the big lead patch, but I had already used the MAX # of dimensions. Useful for leading into a line and falling out of a phrase.
QL’56 Strat Neck.gig 1.0 Gigs

INFO: These patches follow the same format as the bridge
patches. The neck pickup gives you a bluesier sound.

0 n Mute/Pop C1-C#1
C1 -> 3 Velocity Super Short Mute/Chug +
1 Velocity Super Short Pop
C#1 -> 3 Velocity Short Mute/Chug +
1 Velocity Short Pop

2 n Lead
C1 -> 4 Velocity Sustain Non-Vibrato

F1 -> 4 Speed/Velocity Full Step Slide Up
F#1 -> 4 Speed/Velocity 1/2 Step Slide Down
G1 -> 3 Velocity Staccato +
1 Velocity Pop
3 n Hawaiian Strum C1-C#1

C1 -> 2 Velocity Power Chords Downstroke
C#1 -> 2 Velocity Power Chords Upstroke

5 n Effects C1-C#1

TIP: There are about 150 assorted effects here. They can be used
with the bridge sounds as well.
