I think geocities has problems with MP3 files, you may want to ty putting them up in a ZIP file.

Okay, sorry about the messy post so far...
finally both files are up.
Realism was priority here, both with strings and brass. As i mentioned before, i\'m trying to get AO strings to sound as convincing as i can get them. There are some area\'s that i\'m not sure about, but i\'m wondering if other people will pick up on them.

Beedcake.mp3 - Fast string passage begins around 0:35

Carriagechase.mp3 - Horsechase, strings throughout.

Of course, knowing ahead of time that these were samples skews my perceptions, but I still didn\'t feel like I MIGHT be listening to strings. There was a certain lack of dynamics and tone variations that made me think it sounded too \"synthy.\" The problem in my opinion, with fast string passages using ensemble samples, is that in the real world all the musicians aren\'t playing in perfect unison. You can do what Dan Dean has suggested before and layer a solo instrument over the ensemble to help with the realism, but I don\'t know that this will get around the basic problem.

Again, these are just my opinions, so take them with a grain of salt.

You mention getting AO Strings to sound realistic. I\'ve just purchased AO Strings and I hear aliasing on many of the samples. Is there something I\'m doing wrong or do these samples just suck? The aliasing becomes more prominent at high velocities, but it\'s really noticeable in the legato sounds.

James, your percussion in Beedcake are quite amazing! Where are the sounds from?? About the fast strings, I am sorry, but I don\'t even think it sounds like strings. Sounds more like a reed-instrument or an organ or something. Unfortunately I don\'t think you will be able to make fast string passages very well with AO.

The percussion is all from x-sample disk number 9... no loops. I used the Tom, shaker, and a few others.

Wow, and i thought i was perhaps getting closer to realism, a rude awakening indeed! http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

Strange, because to me, they were quite convincing...oh well i guess i better not listen to my own opinion anymore.

Even the carriagechase sounded super fake?

Thanks Donnie, I\' m a bit of a percussion whore http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif i like creating complex peices in general with all instruments, and percussion is no exception.

I heard it again. More and more amazed by the percussion! And the brass is very nice too. Still the strings are letting it down a bit I think. When a certain library comes out you will be able to improve them 10-fold http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif

I agree with Simon. The percussion in \"Beedcake\" is really great! In fact I think the whole piece is carried by the extremely interesting tonal quality of your percussion. Reminds me a bit of something that could be in Elfman\'s Planet of the Apes score and would make for a great chase underscore.

Thanks simon, when i get some better strings i\'ll go back and redo them http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
I\'m glad that i\'ve got this feedback on those strings, at least now i know that they just don\'t cut it.
Btw, all the feedback so far seems to be related to beedcakes strings, are the carriagechase.mp3 strings just as bad?
