This is a special occasion, only the finest, most expensive wine will do!
I'm buying when I get my check from BMI sometime in August.

CHEERS, Bill! That's superb news. I remember the thread when you were getting into ASCAP. Glad you did join up and are now reaping the rewards.

Reber, cognac sounds great.
Dan, let's trade drinks - Lablatt Blue?
Randy, thanks - not rich, but it feels good!

Congrats Bill!
It's not about the money, but it sure doesn't hurt...
Hope it will be the first of many (then dinner's on you - I like Thai food).:p

It must be a good feeling to get paid for music you've created...especially royalties from ASCAP!
Years ago I received a check for $0.37 from one of the first online music sources available (I don't even remember the name of the site) that paid like a penny for every 50 times one of my pieces was played...I framed the check!
Anyway my question is; I'm just getting back into writing again and wonder how you guys go about shopping your material?
Thanks very much and congratulations Bill!

Just a bump hoping someone will answer my question above...unless you guys are just too stingy to share!!!!:)

rpearl - OK, Thai it is...
Randy, you asked: "I'm just getting back into writing again and wonder how you guys go about shopping your material?" Most guys here would probably say the same, "You have to know someone." I get mine connections right now through the Cleveland Composers Guild. Market and sell yourself. Beware of marketing schemes that charge. And keep selling and promoting. Best of luck.
Ken, thanks - It does feel good.
Best regards
Bill

Randy, when I started out I just cold-submitted my stuff to publishers who put out the kind of stuff I was doing. At the time I was also writing for big band and doing some studio work as well as doing pageant band charts (talent and production numbers) every year. I also did some stuff for children's theatre.
So I would advise you to play the field and not be too narrow in your submission focus. Something will get picked iup and things will start happening - mainly because people talk to people and have memories - so be sure to make those memories decent ones.
Best of luck!
